Bowling championships end early for Shocker men, women

The Wichita State University men’s bowling team finished in third place, and the women’s team fell in the third round, at the Intercollegiate Team Championships, held April 20-23 in Columbus, Ga.

The Shocker men entered the competition as the three-time defending national champions, while the Shocker women’s team won last in 2009.

In the semi-final match, the men faced Fresno State and captured the first two games, before Fresno State pulled ahead by winning the next three. The Shockers kept the last game close, but in the 10th frame Fresno State pulled away to end the Shockers’ hopes of winning a fourth consecutive national title.

The women made it to the third round and faced Adelphi University.

They battled back and forth, but Adelphi came out on top, eliminating the Shocker women from the tournament.
