Wichita State University’s College of Engineering has awarded the Boeing Global Engineering Leadership Professorship to Charles Yang, professor in aerospace engineering.

He has made outstanding contributions to the globalization of the engineering profession, WSU and the college, balancing excellence in education with excellence in research.

Yang is the first recipient to receive the award from the College of Engineering. The award will boost his annual salary by more than $24,000.

The Boeing Global Engineering Leadership Professorship is awarded to individuals who develop, implement and promote programs, activities, initiatives and courses based on an experience-based engineering education approach.

Candidates must also show evidence of successful interaction and collaboration with industry partners, as well as success in seeking external funding to support development and implementation of academic and research programs.

The college’s Strategic Task Force, Dean Zulma Toro-Ramos and representatives from The Boeing Co. selected Yang for this professorship.

In this role, Yang will expand existing and develop new academic and research programs to advance the implementation of WSU engineering’s experience-based education approach with primary focus on the integration of globalization and leadership.

He will help establish meaningful collaborations with industry partners and educate the general public on the experience-based engineering education approach.

The Boeing Global Engineering Leadership Professorship is made possible through a generous gift from The Boeing Co.
