Financial literacy conference will focus on college success

The 2011 Conference on Financial Literacy for College Success will be held Wednesday and Thursday, July 27-28, at the Wichita Marriott.

The conference is sponsored by the Office for Faculty Development and Student Success at Wichita State University.

High school administrators, teachers and college admissions and financial aid experts from around the state will gather for the event to share ideas and learn of efforts to equip students with practical financial skills.

Topics include the impact of student debt, alternative sources of funds for college, sources of debt to avoid, setting financial goals and student success indicators.

Nationally syndicated personal finance columnist Liz Pulliam Weston will give the keynote address at 6 p.m. July 27.

College-bound high school students and their parents are invited to attend the speech and associated dinner. Following the dinner, from 7:30-8:30 p.m., there will be a workshop geared to college financial planning for students and parents.
