Join the Lake Afton Public Observatory for a special evening of Native American storytelling. Choose from three dates: 9:30 p.m. Friday, July 8, and Friday, Aug. 19, and 8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16.

The programs will be held in the field west of the observatory building and will be hosted by Jan Brooks of the Ojibwe tribe.

The North American plains tribes had constellations, stars and legends unique to their culture just as the Greeks and Romans did. Hear some of the many wonderful sacred star stories Native American tribes told, and learn how the night skies influenced tribal life.

There will be a limited number of chairs available, so participants are encouraged to bring a folding chair or blanket to sit on. A good bug repellent is also advised.

There is no charge for the Native American Storytelling program, but if you want to take in the observatory’s regularly scheduled program and see the observatory’s exhibits, regular admission charges will apply.

Lake Afton Public Observatory is operated by the Fairmount Center for Science and Mathematics Education, a part of the Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Science at Wichita State University.
