Pre-med senior receives special scholarship

One perk of being president of the Student Ambassador Society (SAS) at Wichita State is receiving the $500 Don and Shirley Beggs Student Ambassador Society Scholarship. Liz Quinn received the scholarship, awarded annually since 2005, at the annual Convocation Aug. 30.

“We are so lucky to have a president and first lady who have such a passion for investing in our university and, more importantly, fostering relationships with students,” said Quinn.

She said being a recipient of the scholarship is “very humbling.”

Quinn is a senior pre-med student majoring in communication sciences and disorders (CSD). She graduated from Maize High School in 2008. Ultimately, she plans to attend medical school and specialize in obstetrics and gynecology or pediatrics.

“The CSD program has provided me with a solid foundation that will set me apart as a medical school applicant and be a great complement to whichever specialty I choose to enter,”
said Quinn.

She plans to graduate in May 2013.

Enhancing WSU's image

SAS enhances the image of Wichita State by participating in various outreach programs. As a service organization, SAS visits high schools and community colleges to discuss the benefits of a university experience, especially at Wichita State.

SAS also hosts student and nonstudent VIPs when they visit campus.

“I have been incredibly blessed during my experience at WSU and have a deep passion for this university,” said Quinn. “I consider serving as president of SAS an indescribable honor and a rewarding way to give back to the university by sharing my experience with prospective students."
