David Berry, a senior at Trinity Academy in Wichita, is the winner of Wichita State University’s 2012-2013 Clay Barton Scholarship in Business.

Berry will receive $11,000 a year for four years to attend WSU. The $44,000 Barton Scholarship is the biggest business scholarship in the state.

Berry, who plans to study finance at WSU, is the son of Walter and Polly Berry.

He was born and raised in Wichita, where he attended Central Christian Academy through eighth grade. During his elementary years, Berry began competitive swimming, which he continued through his sophomore year of high school.

Since stepping back from swimming, he has participated in many activities at Trinity including performing in musicals, singing in choirs and serving as National Honor Society president.

One of seven finalists

The youngest of four children, Berry enjoys spending time with his siblings as well as his four nieces and nephews.

Berry was one of seven finalists for the Barton Scholarship.

To be eligible, high school seniors must have a 3.5 GPA, a 24 on their ACT and be a declared business major.

The Barton Scholarship was established in 1991 for the son of the late Rent-A-Center Chairman Emeritus W. Frank Barton, for whom WSU’s business school is named.
