Global Village, KMUW earn national honors

Global Village, the nightly world music show that airs locally on KMUW FM 89.1, has been honored with a national award and nominated in the new Reader's Choice World Music Awards.

KMUW, a listener-supported station, is licensed to Wichita State University. Global Village is hosted by KMUW announcer/producer Chris Heim at 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Global Village is distributed nationally through PRX, the Public Radio Exchange, and to date has aired on nearly 80 radio stations. Each year PRX hands out its Zeitfunk Awards to the most distributed shows and stations.

Global Village was among the Top 10 for Nationally Distributed Series, and KMUW was in the Top Five among stations due to its Global Village offering.

In addition, Global Village has just been nominated for Best World Music Radio Show in the Reader's Choice World Music Awards. Nominees were picked by reader votes and open voting for a final winner, which Global Village currently leads, continues through March 21. A link to the ballot is available on the Global Village page at http://www.facebook.com/GlobalVillageRadio.
