Big Pink Volleyball fundraiser set for Oct. 27

Wichita State University’s Student Wellness Action Team (SWAT) is holding its first Big Pink Volleyball fundraiser event at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at WSU’s Heskett Center. The entry fee is $5 per participant.

Forms and entry fees are due by 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at Student Health Services in Ahlberg Hall. Registration forms are available Oct. 1 at the Heskett Center, Student Health Services, Counseling and Testing Center, and the Office of Housing and Residence Life.

Big Pink Volleyball is a philanthropic event founded by Western Illinois University to raise funds for breast cancer charities, including Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Teams of four to 10 members play in a volleyball tournament with a 4-foot diameter, hot pink volleyball. For a video with more information, go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2qjGj-BK5g.

“My goal is to make this event so big it becomes an annual event at WSU,” said Jesse Briscoe, president of SWAT. “I have a lot of faith and confidence that SWAT will make this happen.”

People who would like to participate in the cause can also contribute by setting up a booth or activity at the event to promote their organization, assisting SWAT with event planning or simply making a donation.

SWAT is a student led organization advised by Campus Recreation, Student Health Services and Counseling and Testing.

Students interested in joining SWAT can contact Briscoe, (316) 978-6787 or jesse.briscoe@wichita.edu.
