MFA students tackle questions of control in art exhibit

“How Much Can We Control?” brings to Wichita State University a juried exhibition of regional Master of Fine Arts student artworks that address the presence or lack of control in every aspect of art and life.

The exhibit, organized by WSU School of Art and Design graduate students, is on view through Friday, Feb. 8, in the Clayton Staples Gallery in the McKnight Art Center on campus.

Admission is free.

Student organization of the regional MFA exhibit is a requirement of the Professional Practices class in the WSU School of Art and Design. Juried by WSU Associate Professor Robert Bubp, the show encompasses various media and includes MFA candidate student-artists from universities throughout the Midwest.

The exhibition began Dec. 10 and will close with a reception from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, in the Clayton Staples Gallery. Artists Michael Knutson of Fort Hays State University; Liana Owad of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln; Brent Richardson of the University of Oklahoma; Damia Smith of the University of Kansas; and Spencer Ulm of the University of Oklahoma will offer brief remarks.

Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday when classes are in session. To view by appointment when classes are not session, call Levente Sulyok, (316) 978-7705.
