Halloween-themed concert to feature WSU Symphony Orchestra

The WSU Symphony Orchestra will present a Halloween Family Concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, in Miller Concert Hall. Tickets are available from the WSU Fine Arts Box Office for $7.

Discount prices are available, and students can get a free ticket with a current WSU ID at the box office. Children in costume will also be admitted free.

The program features 20th and 21st century music from America, France and Mexico. The concert will begin with John Williams' “Call of the Champions,” the majestic fanfare composed for the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics.

The orchestra will also perform Maurice Ravel’s “Mother Goose Suite,” the colorful, vivid ballet score based upon the well-loved fairy tales. Mexico will be represented by the vibrant “Danzon No. 2” by Arturo Marquez.

The program also includes two popular American selections: Samuel Barber's “Adagio for Strings” and Morton Gould's “American Salute.”

The orchestra will be dressed in costume for this fun, festive event. The program will be conducted by Mark Laycock, associate professor of music, who holds the Ann Walenta Faculty of Distinction Endowed Professorship.
