Wallace Scholar biographies

Joshua Albert, Andale High School
Joshua has participated in BEST robotics for the past four years and served as team captain his senior year. He is a member of the National Honor Society and Catholic Youth Organization. Outside of academics, Joshua is active on his family farm where he regularly works after school and on weekends.

Isaac Brethour, Shawnee Mission South High School
Isaac is involved in his high school’s marching band, where he is band manager and head leader of the trumpet section. He is also first chair in symphonic band, which he has been a part of during all four years of high school. Isaac is senior class treasurer in student council and is involved in cross-country and swimming. He is a member of the National Honor Society and is a Boy Scout, where he plans to finish his Eagle Scout rank.

Alexandra Deghand, DeSoto High School
Alexandra is a four-year member of varsity cheerleading and is captain her senior year. She has also participated in track and field and power lifting. In addition to athletics, Alexandra is involved in Light Team, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society, Kansas Honor Scholars and Wildcat Ambassadors and Mentors.

Katelyn Dugan, Bishop Carroll High School
Katelyn is a member of the National Honor Society, a Kansas Scholar and a recipient of the Golden Eagle Academic Achievement Award. She was a participant in the 2013 State National History Day competition and is involved in the Art Club and Spanish Club. She enjoys volunteering at a local nursing home and at Holy Family Camp.

Josiah Gray, Wichita East High School
As an International Baccalaureate student, Josiah is a member of National Honor Society, Scholar's Bowl Team, Science Olympiad Team, a violinist in the philharmonia orchestra and the select chamber orchestra. He is involved in KMEA South Central District Orchestra, Wichita Symphony Youth Orchestra, lead vocalist in the Aldersgate United Methodist Church Youth Praise Team and a volunteer at Rainbow's United Kid's Cove.

Kevin Kraus, Salina South High School
Kevin is a three-year varsity captain of the Scholars Bowl team. He is a member of the National Honor Society and Model UN, plays trumpet in his school’s jazz band and is on Junior Leadership Salina. He is a co-founder and co-chairman of the youth ministry team and served as a drum major in the school’s marching band for three years. Kevin was also named a 2014 Gore Scholar.

Nicholas Lee, homeschool
Nicholas has volunteered as a leader, trainer and table coordinator in nationwide Numana events, packing millions of meals for hurricane victims in Haiti. He has participated in Victory Christian Academy junior varsity and varsity basketball teams, golf, Tallgrass swim team, Walnut Valley Sailing Club, Mixed Martial Arts club and tennis.

Katherine Marceau, Wichita Northwest High School
Katherine has served as president and concertmaster for orchestra and has played violin for nine years. She has been in high school band for three years and is the head leader for the clarinet section. She is involved with National Honor Society, Link Crew Leaders and the Wichita Youth Symphony.

Jonathan Peuchen, Southeast of Saline High School
Jonathan serves as the Kansas Family, Career and Community Leaders of America State president. He is a member of 4-H, serving as the Central Kansas District president. He is involved in football, track, student council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the National Honor Society.

Heath Richards, Fremont High School
Heath is the principal violinist in the Omaha Youth Symphony and Fremont High School Orchestra. Heath serves as bass section leader in varsity choir, and he regularly volunteers as a solo and ensemble musician for church, school and community events.

Aaron Wilson, homeschool
Aaron is a lifelong homeschool student. He has demonstrated his competitive spirit by succeeding at academic contests, sports and LEGO robotics. During high school he played basketball and was a member of the Bible quiz team. Aaron is active in his church youth group and is looking forward to his second mission trip.
