A delegation from the China Christian Council will make a stop at Wichita State University Wednesday, March 12, as part of its quest to explore how to meet the challenges of caring for the aging Chinese population.

Hosted by the School of Nursing, the group will spend the day learning from Wichita State presenters, including Alicia Huckstadt, graduate program director for the School of Nursing; Susan Parsons, assistant professor; Kathryn Trilli, dental hygienist; Nicole Rogers, director of the Aging Studies program; Mike Rogers, director of the Center for Physical Activity and Aging, Xiao-Ming Sun, associate professor; and Cathy Coufal, chair of the Communication Sciences and Disorders department.

The delegation will be assisted in translation by WSU student Jingdi Zhang, past coordinator of outreach in Bejing, and LiJun Zhu, an instructor for Bethel College and Wichita public schools. Betty Smith-Campbell, chair of the School of Nursing, says that hosting the China Council helps showcase the work Wichita State’s faculty is doing, across disciplines, that has a positive impact on the health of elders nationally and internationally.

The nine-person delegation will travel around Kansas from March 3-15 and is hosted by Mennonite Friendship Communities, Mennonite Health Services and Bluestem Communities.
