Call for abstracts, evidence-based nursing conference planned for April 2015

The local chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, International (STTI) has announced its first evidence-based nursing conference from 8 a.m.-4:40 p.m. Thursday, April 30, at the Dugan Conference Center, Newman University, Wichita.

The STTI honor society is the second-largest nursing organization in the world, with a mission to advance world health and celebrate nursing excellence in scholarship, leadership and service. The conference will represent STTI’s Epsilon Gamma Chapter at Large, which includes schools of nursing at Bethel College, Newman University, Southwestern College, Tabor College and Wichita State University.

Two experienced nurse researchers have been confirmed as keynote speakers to inspire attendees with their work as change agents locally and internationally. In addition, the conference agenda will include oral and poster presentations by selected nurses and nursing students. Abstracts are being accepted from all nurses and nursing students submitted by Feb. 16. STTI membership is not a requirement to participate.

“We encourage abstracts from nurses at all levels of education and licensure to share their work, including students through executive level nurses,” said Peggy Hernandez, clinical educator in the WSU School of Nursing. “This is a great time in history for nurses to influence health care policies and practices.”

STTI hopes to make the evidence-based nursing conference an annual event.
