Now offering spring transfer scholarships, Wichita State awards $96,000

Normally students transferring to a university in the spring don't have many options when it comes to scholarships. Wichita State University has decided to change that. Starting this spring, WSU awarded $96,000 to 115 new incoming transfers.

“We’re always looking for new ways to reach out and support our transfer students,” said Chad Steinkamp, assistant director of admissions. “We’ve realized that the traditional model of only awarding scholarships in the fall just doesn’t work for all students. We’ve got great transfers starting every semester, and we want to reward their accomplishments whether they start in the fall or spring.”

Students admitted for the spring semester by Dec. 1 were automatically considered for the scholarships. Awards were based on a student’s transfer GPA, and students needed a minimum 3.25 GPA to qualify. A 3.25 GPA must be maintained at WSU to renew the scholarship for the 2015-2016 academic year.

“These students were high achievers at their former institutions, and we expect them to continue to do well at Wichita State,” Steinkamp said. “We’re excited to support them as they make the transition and finish their education at WSU.”
