Shocker New Venture Competition advances 16 teams to Trade Show

The Center for Entrepreneurship's Shocker New Venture Competition is underway and will award more than $30,000 in startup capital to aid in the launch of new ventures.

The Trade Show round of the competition will take place from 3-6 p.m. Friday, April 24, at Charles Koch Arena.

Intent to compete forms were submitted by 77 teams, with more than 120 participants from across the state, prior to the Feb. 27 deadline. Those teams then submitted a synopsis of their business concept in a two-page summary on March 6.

Judges selected concepts from 32 teams to advance to the Ten-Page Screening Round of the competition. From those 32 teams, 16 New Venture teams were selected to advance to the upcoming Trade Show round.

Selection for the Trade Show was based on the concept’s market viability, its stage of development and financial projections.

The teams advancing to the Trade Show are:

  • Carbon Financial
  • Connectify
  • Dead Company
  • Draft Board
  • Good Flight LLC
  • Kansas Rural Community Health
  • MediPaq
  • Mid-America Engineers
  • Mobile Health Link
  • My Green Thumb
  • MYS: Muscle Sensor Technology
  • Pet Connector
  • Rabbit Method Technologies
  • Somnoscience
  • Team Time Management
  • Voice Intelligence

In the Trade Show round of the competition, the six teams with the most “investments” from the judges will advance to the Final Round event, which will take place from 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, May 1, in Devlin Hall, Room 107, on Wichita State’s main campus. An award ceremony will follow in the lobby of Devlin Hall, with winners announced at 5 p.m.

Final presentations and the award ceremony are open to the public.
