Program helps Kansas students experience Wall Street at no cost to schools

Thousands of Kansas students in third- through 12th-grade classrooms are spending classroom time this fall learning about the fundamentals of investing and how they might get their money to work for them. The Stock Market Game (SMG) has been used in Kansas by thousands of teachers since 1977. The SMG has a competitive side for the students but was designed with educational resources for teachers. Teams of students invest a hypothetical $100,000 dollars in real stocks, mutual funds and bonds with real prices during a trading session. Teams track their progress with an online portfolio while watching their rankings against other schools in their grade level around the state. The teachers are using resources tied to Common Core standards and more while helping students to develop critical thinking and teamwork skills. The SMG is virtual investing with real-world learning.
