Wichita State enrolls 14,495 students in fall 2015

Enrollment at Wichita State University for fall 2015 is 14,495 students, a decrease of 508 students, or 3.4 percent, compared to fall 2014, according to the official enrollment report given to the Kansas Board of Regents following the 20th day of classes.

Total student credit hours are 160,909 for fall 2015, a decrease of 2.6 percent compared to fall 2014, when credit hours set a record for the highest number in Wichita State’s history.

Fall 2015 represents the highest percent of undergraduates enrolled full-time, 77.2 percent, in Wichita State history.

This fall, Wichita State has its highest number of online student credit hours in history, a 27 percent increase over last year, or 21,276 credit hours, an increase of 4,556 credit hours.

Wichita State has made advances in online student credit hours, underrepresented minorities and first-generation students, while experiencing a decrease in the number of local high school graduates, consequences related to increasing academic standards and international currency devaluations, according to Tony Vizzini, provost and senior vice president at WSU.

“The dreams of our students and the quality of the education they receive is not diminished by this decrease, and our advances as the Innovation University will serve as a beacon to future enrollment,” said Vizzini.
