Walk the purple mile and say no more to domestic violence

In 2015, 4,626 domestic violence incidents have been reported in Wichita, along with four domestic violence homicides. Wichita State University is joining with others in the community to say "no more" to domestic violence and raise awareness with the Purple Mile walk at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Rhatigan Student Center east patio. It is free and open to the public.

Terrance Williams of McConnell Air Force Base will speak about domestic violence, along with Wichita State athletes.

The walk will have five activity tables along the route for participants to learn more about domestic violence and its effects. At the conclusion of the walk, participants will be given the opportunity to post a photo with a domestic violence message.

Supporters of the event include the Wichita/Sedgwick County Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Coalition; WSU School of Community Affairs; Prevention Services Advisory Board; School of Social Work; WSU Police Department; WSU Athletic Department; Criminal Justice Student Association; WSU Student Athletic Organization; Pepsi; Freddy’s and Shocker Sports Grill and Lanes.
