Model United Nations represents WSU at national conference

The Wichita State University Model United Nations (Model UN) group traveled to the Czech Republic recently to participate in the National Model United Nations (NMUN) conference hosted at Palacky University in Olomouc.

Model UN is a program in which students take on the roles of diplomats from foreign countries in simulated United Nations committee meetings. They are given specific topics and become experts on global issues, representing countries around the world in an effort to write resolutions.

The NMUN hosts Model UN groups from colleges and universities around the world that compete together in mock committee meetings. During the Olomouc conference, Wichita State students sat on the committees of General Assembly, Economic and Social Council, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and the Security Council representing the United Kingdom. They received an award for Outstanding Delegation while there.

The students also had the opportunity to visit Prague and debrief with staff from the British Embassy.
