The G-rated show, which is in French with English titles, is co-produced by WSU’s opera and dance program and directed by Marie King and Nick Johnson.

In 1775, three Native American chiefs visited Paris, performing their songs and dances for the court of Louis XV. Inspired by the spectacle, Jean-Philippe Rameau began work on the opera-ballet, depicting amorous interactions between French and Spanish colonials and native populations.

The resulting piece is an entertaining combination of storytelling in dance and song. Les Indes Galantes was one of the most popular works in the opera-ballet genre, with frequent revivals during the 18th century.

The Duerksen Box Office opens one hour before show time, and doors open 30 minutes before.

Tickets are $16, with discounts available. WSU students are eligible for one free ticket (visit http://www.wichita.edu/j/?4363 for details). For ticketing assistance, contact the Fine Arts Box Office from 10:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, at 316-978-3233 or fasttickets@wichita.edu.
