WSU to be heavily represented at health care innovation summit in Wichita

Wichita State will be heavily represented at this year's Health Care Summit in Wichita, based on the university's extensive emphasis on health care innovation.

The summit, which will be held Wednesday, June 1 at the Kansas Leadership Center, will explore ways to expand the regional health care industry by focusing on entrepreneurial and innovative opportunities.

It will feature a number of community leaders in medicine, technology, policy and education presenting research and new products and services being developed that could change the health care field.

Many of the presenters are from various departments across WSU. Scheduled speakers include John Tomblin, John Lovitt, Jeremy Patterson, Kim Cluff, Nils Hakansson, Gary Brooking, Anil Mahapatro, Kim Reuter and Ramazan Asmatulu. Kenton Hansen and Cindy Claycomb will perform as moderators.

Patterson, professor and director of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Creativity for Human Performance Studies at WSU, says the summit is an opportunity for research-focused faculty and staff to present their work and explore what investors look for in terms of potential industry impact and growth.

“The city of Wichita is well positioned to be a leader in the areas of bio/health technology,” said Patterson. “For years WSU has been conducting research and innovating in these areas, but it’s only recently that these individuals have joined forces to explore opportunities.”

As our community works together to grow existing industries, entrepreneurism and innovation continually rise to the top as a way to accelerate the health care industry. Patterson says the health care summit is precisely the type of event that initiates partnerships, which will result in technology evolvement.

“As is the case for any great entrepreneurial community, there is strength in numbers,” said Patterson. “Collaboration is key if we want to play a role in this emerging industry.”

The summit will also include a forum focusing on what our region can do to strengthen our current health care ecosystem.
