Opera Theatre celebrates Shakespeare's 400th anniversary with comic operetta

Wichita State University’s Opera Theatre will celebrate Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary with a comic operetta adaptation of “Much Ado About Nothing.”

The operetta, “Beatrice et Benedict,” was written by French composer Hector Berlioz and will be sung in the original French with spoken dialogue in Shakespeare’s English.

With gorgeous melodies and sparkling banter, the story follows two reluctant lovers thrown together through the scheming of their friends.

Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Oct. 13-15, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, in Miller Concert Hall.

Tickets for the event can be purchased at the Fine Arts Box Office in the lobby of the Duerksen Fine Arts Center or online at wichita.edu/fineartsboxoffice.
