Wichita State named by two organizations as a top military university

Two organizations have named Wichita State University as a top university for military and veterans.

Wichita State has been named a top school in the 2017 Guide to Colleges and Universities by Military Advanced Education & Transition.

The ranking measures best practices in military and veteran education. This year’s evaluation was based on each school’s military culture, financial aid, flexibility, general support, on-campus support and online support services.

WSU also was named on the 2017 Military Friendly Schools list. The ranking is produced each year by Victory Media.

The list is based on research using public data sources, input from student veterans and responses to a proprietary survey. The survey questions, methodology, criteria and weightings were developed by Victory Media with the assistance of an independent research firm and an advisory council of educators and employers.

WSU has continued to increase efforts to support military students and faculty / staff, veterans and their families, including:

  • The establishment of a Military and Veteran Student Center.
  • The creation of the Student Veterans Organization to address veteran needs while going through the higher education process.
  • Participation in Department of Veterans Affairs’ Yellow Ribbon Program, which provides additional financial assistance for eligible out-of-state students from military families.
  • The launch of the Veterans Preference in the Application Process initiative, which seeks to attract more employees who are veterans of military.
  • Veterans Upward Bound, a pre-college program designed to assist veterans with the college admission and financial aid / GI Bill process.
