WSU School of Music hosts faculty recital, 'From War to Peace'

Wichita State University School of Music will host a faculty recital by Betul Soykan, professor of violin.

The event, “From War to Peace,” will begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, in Wiedemann Hall, featuring Soykan and guest pianist Juan Andrade performing Holocaust inspired sonatas by Ferguson, Messiaen and Prokofiev.

Soyken joined WSU faculty in fall 2016, having previously taught at the University of Texas-RGV. She was trained at a conservatory in Europe and holds four degrees in violin performance and string pedagogy. She has performed internationally and worked with recording artists on Cesar Frank’s sonatas and the “Complete Sonatas of Joaquin Turina.”

The event is free and open to the public.
