Sixteen teams of young entrepreneurs present inventions at Shocker New Venture Competition

Fifteen Wichita State University teams and one Kansas State University team of budding inventors and entrepreneurs have advanced to the Shocker New Venture Competition Trade Show where they will demonstrate their inventions to potential “investors.”

The event will take place from 2-6 p.m. Friday, April 20 at Charles Koch Arena.

The teams will set up displays and pitch their business concepts to over 100 business leaders. The six teams with the most “investments” by the judges will advance to the final round from 1–4 p.m. Friday, April 27, in Devlin Hall. An awards ceremony will take place after the event at 5 p.m.

Finalists from last year include Pinole Blue, a healthy endurance ingredient made from blue corn; Eyas, the first advanced police support multirotor drone on the market; and Mobile Car Tune, a web-based, on-site mobile mechanic service provider.

Start-up capital will be awarded to the winning teams and will aid in the launch of their own new venture. Teams participating in the Trade Show will also be eligible to receive the People’s Choice Award, which will be awarded to the Trade Show team that student judges deem to have the most commercially viable business venture.

The public is welcome and encouraged to attend these events and to witness this next generation of entrepreneurs and innovators. For more information about this event, contact Nancy Kersenbrock at nancy.kersenbrock@wichita.edu or 316-978-3000.
