Percussion Ensemble to perform Benefit for Haiti

The Wichita State University Percussion Ensemble and Steel Band will perform a benefit concert for the victims of the Haiti earthquake at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 1, in Wiedemann Recital Hall.

Admission is free, but audience members are encouraged to make donations to the American Red Cross.

The concert will feature solo works by J.S. Bach, Fritz Kreisler and WSU’s Katherine Murdock, performed by members of the WSU Percussion Ensemble. Murdock’s piece is a premiere of a newly reworked piece originally written for saxophone and now performed on vibraphone.

Gerald Scholl, who leads the percussion program at WSU, will also perform a solo work.

Scholl said that, thus far, it’s the only benefit concert being presented by WSU’s School of Music.

“It’s an incredible opportunity for the WSU community to get together to both give to those in need and be thoroughly entertained by the talent and artistry of the WSU percussionists,” said Scholl.
