WSU to host Shocker Mindstorms Challenge on March 6

Wichita State University’s engineering and education colleges will host the 10th annual Shocker Mindstorms Challenge, a robotics competition for fourth through eighth grade students, on Saturday, March 6.

Preparation for and participation in the Mindstorms Challenge enhances students’ science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills, and promotes teamwork, sportsmanship and communication skills.

Competition is from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. in the Heskett Center gymnasium. The event is free and open to the public.

Thirty-six teams will participate in the event, which is sponsored by Spirit AeroSystems.

Teams of students will compete to score the highest number of points on robotics courses designed by College of Engineering students and will also be required to demonstrate what they have learned through presentations, table displays and notebooks.

Sportsmanship and spirit will be judged throughout the day to promote collaboration and teamwork.

The day’s events will culminate in an awards ceremony from 5-6 p.m. in 208 Hubbard Hall.
