Jan 4, 2011 — By WSU News Services — WSU clarinetist Suzanne Tirk will be featured in a duet with David Shifrin in a Wichita Symphony Orchestra concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16.

Lisa Bennett graduated with a master's in communication sciences and disorders in December. She has had a problem with stuttering since she was 4 and hopes that her experiences will help her relate to others with similar problems.

Her journey through school is one of triumph and perseverance, as she overcame the negative influence her own speech impediment had in her life.

Dec 20, 2010 — By Anthony Marrone — Brent Bowers, a business administration and marketing major, received the Chuck Hall Star of Tomorrow award. The prestigious award is given to one male high school or college student in the United States who competes in the sport of bowling. The last time someone from Kansas received the award was 1995.

Dec 17, 2010 — By WSU News Services — Jessica Crumrine, a senior at Newton High School in Newton, Kan., is the winner of Wichita State University's 2011-2012 Clay Barton Scholarship in Business. She will receive $11,000 a year for four years to attend WSU as a marketing major in the W. Frank Barton School of Business.

Carmel High School and CleoAnne Worthan, Campus High School, were named Klose Scholars in the first Klose Scholarship Competition held recently at Corbin Education Center on the Wichita State University campus.

Dec 14, 2010 — By WSU News Services — Wichita State engineering alum Thor Kissman recently helped launch the SkyTerra1 satellite from Kazakhstan. Once operational, this satellite will allow personal PDA/smartphones that have a view of the southern sky to connect from anywhere in the United States, virtually removing bad cell coverage.
