The Barton School of Business at Wichita State University officially launched its 100th anniversary celebration Saturday, Feb. 21, with a sold-out “Beyond” Hall of Fame gala that raised more than $1 million to support student success.
More than 300 alumni, business leaders, university officials and community partners gathered for the sold out event, which honored three transformative leaders: Paul Allen, Dan Carney and Steve Feilmeier. The evening blended recognition, storytelling and philanthropy, setting the tone for a yearlong centennial celebration.
“What a powerful way to begin our centennial year,” said Dr. Larisa Genin, dean of the Barton School. “For 100 years, the Barton School has shaped leaders who move Wichita and the world forward. To celebrate that legacy while investing more than $1.2 million into student success demonstrates the strength of our community and our shared belief in the future of business education.”
Honoring Business Leaders of Lasting Impact
The 2026 inductees into the Barton School’s “Beyond” Hall of Fame represent significant contributions to business and civic leadership:
- Paul Allen, CEO of Allen, Gibbs & Houlik, L.C., recognized for advancing the accounting profession across Kansas and strengthening civic initiatives.
- Dan Carney, co-founder of Pizza Hut, honored for his entrepreneurial vision and longstanding philanthropic impact in Wichita.
- Steve Feilmeier, managing director of the Feilmeier Family Office and retired Koch executive, recognized for his commitment to mentorship, innovation and community investment.
Each inductee was celebrated through tributes highlighting professional achievement and a dedication to service that extends beyond business success.
Investing in the Next Generation
In honor of the Barton School’s centennial year, proceeds from the gala will support scholarships, applied learning opportunities, global immersion programs, career development initiatives and student support services – ensuring today’s students are equipped to lead in a rapidly changing economy for years to come. These investments carry the centennial celebration forward – turning a milestone moment into lasting momentum for students.
“The energy in the room was extraordinary,” said Stephanie Luetters, chair of the 2026 “Beyond” Hall of Fame gala and member of the dean’s advisory board. “This event reflects what makes the Barton School special: strong partnerships, meaningful relationships and a deep commitment to students. Surpassing the $1 million mark during our centennial year sends a clear message about the momentum behind this institution.”
The 2026 gala builds on the success of the inaugural 2024 event, which raised more than $800,000. With this milestone achievement, the “Beyond” Hall of Fame continues to grow as one of the Barton School’s premier philanthropic traditions.
Launching the Next 100 Years
The February gala marks the beginning of a full slate of centennial events throughout 2026 that will honor the school’s legacy while positioning it for continued growth and impact. The celebration followed a centennial proclamation issued the previous week recognizing the Barton School’s 100 years of excellence.
“As we reflect on our first 100 years, we do so with gratitude,” Genin said. “As we look ahead, we do so with bold ambition. The next century of the Barton School starts now.”
