Barton School names Basil Hourani as newest Entrepreneur-in-Residence

Basil Hourani, co-founder and former CEO of Pulse Systems Inc. and co-founder and executive partner of Capital7, has been named as the Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the W. Frank Barton School of Business at Wichita State University for the fall 2022 semester.

The Entrepreneur-in-Residence program was established in 2021 to provide essential collaboration and outside industry knowledge to Barton School students, faculty and the Wichita community.

“I’m honored and excited to be working side-by-side with Barton School students and faculty,” said Hourani. “My objective is to allow students to take what they learn from the sessions to pursue actionable steps in the real world and create practical innovative business models.”

At Capital7, Hourani and his partners are focused on developing true partnerships with management teams while aligning incentives. Capital7 seeks to positively impact a company’s capital structure to facilitate achievement of its objectives whether that is an ownership transition, recapitalization, liquidity event, growth capital infusion, acquisition financing, or some other capital need. Hourani manages an active portfolio of investments including operations in specialty hospital, software technology, and real estate. Basil’s prior experience includes more than 25 years in the health care software and services industry including as president and CEO of Pulse Systems Inc., a national provider of health care information technology he co-founded.

“Basil has such a unique perspective thanks to his career background,” said Dr. Larisa Genin, dean of the Barton School. “I think students, faculty and the community will be empowered by his insights and expertise in the medical, financial and technological fields.”

As the Barton School’s Entrepreneur-in-Residence, Hourani will engage with students in mentoring and networking session, exchange ideas with the Barton School’s leadership team and faculty as well as deliver a fireside chat keynote on the convergence of entrepreneurship, technology and innovation.
