What led you to the MAALM program at WSU?

After completing my bachelor's in fine arts in Dance at Wichita State University, I found myself drawn to the artistry of dance I experienced at WSU. I cherished the camaraderie fostered within the local community ballet company, where I actively participated for many years. However, as life unfolded, I veered into accounting, feeling disconnected from my passions. That is when I realized I needed to realign my career with what fuels my soul.

Why did you choose the MAALM program at WSU?

The College of Fine Arts at WSU exudes a spirit of innovation and creativity that instantly resonated with me. When I discovered the MAALM program, I was captivated by its unique blend of course offerings. This program offered synergy between my artistic background and my desire to make a tangible impact in the arts community. The prospect of learning how to effectively lead and manage within the arts industry while staying connected to my alma mater and community was incredibly enticing.

How has the MAALM program impacted your creative and intellectual development?

The faculty and the overall learning environment at WSU have played instrumental roles in shaping my academic and artistic growth. Their expertise, mentorship, and unwavering support have empowered me to push boundaries, explore new avenues, and strive for excellence in every endeavor. The diverse perspectives and collaborative philosophy fostered within the program have enriched my learning experience, equipping me with the tools and confidence to navigate the complex landscape of arts leadership with renewed purpose.

What can you tell us about your capstone project?

I intend to create and implement a Parents’ Association at Joffrey Academy of Dance. This endeavor is deeply meaningful to me as it aligns with my passion for fostering community engagement and support within the realm of dance education. Crafting mission, vision, and values statements that resonate with the culture of Joffrey Ballet, developing association bylaws and policies, and collaborating closely with the existing BIPOC committee and academy director are all integral components of this project aimed at enhancing the pre-professional journey of young dancers.
