Experienced hotel developers announced their intention Thursday to build and operate
a new 110-room Hyatt Place Hotel at 19th and Oliver on Wichita State University's
expanding east side of campus.
The hotel is planned to begin construction in spring 2019 and be ready for occupancy
in spring 2020. The plan was approved by the Kansas Board of Regents on Nov. 7.
The planned hotel will include a restaurant and bar, meeting space, indoor pool and
fitness center.
The hotel development is led by an experienced hotel management group, Lodging One Hospitality, whose principals are Kenneth and Christopher Heinz. Lodging One Hospitality has
more than 30 years' experience in the hospitality and financial management industry
and is involved in other successful hotel properties in Kansas, Missouri and Texas.
Kenneth Heinz, CEO of Lodging One, said: “We believe the combination of corporate
visitors, families of students, campus event participants and visiting athletics teams
provide a strong base of guests for an on-campus hotel.
“We are pleased to expand into Wichita, which has been a strategic target market for
us,” Heinz said. “And specifically, we are excited to be part of the growth at Wichita
State.”
