As part of a summer class, senior fine arts major Xuan Ha got the opportunity to work on the Jump!Star sculpture, working to fabricate a large, illuminated paper sculpture.
Ha and other students learned from a visiting artist from Brooklyn, George Ferrandi, who co-taught the class with Kristin Beal, ShiftSpace gallery manager.
Ferrandi is an American artist who focuses on performance, sculpture, installation and issues that address vulnerability and impermanence.
This event was organized through a summer class called Jump!Star, which focuses on the shifting of Polaris which is our current pole star.
Jump!Star focuses on community based involvement, collaboration and representation in art.
