Three business major programs add online option at Wichita State

  • International business, marketing and accounting majors will give students more options to pursue goals.
  • Online courses are taught by the same Barton School professors who teach in-person classes.
  • U.S. News & World Report recently ranked Wichita State's online business programs No. 7 nationally.

The W. Frank Barton School of Business at Wichita State University is creating online flexibility for three current majors in its degree program. International business, marketing and accounting majors will now be provided online and taught by the same Barton School professors who teach in-person classes.

“I am very excited we are adding international business, marketing and accounting to the list of fully online majors,” said Brandon McNeal, online academic advisor for the Barton School of Business. “As online business programs grow, it is giving online students more choices to pursue their goals in specific fields of study. These are three great degrees, and I look forward to working with these students.”

The three options have been added to the current wide assortment of business degrees students can complete online including general business, human resource management, and management. The Barton School’s online offerings has led to Wichita State University recently being named No. 7 nationally in Best Online Bachelor’s in Business Programs by U.S. News & World Report.

“This decision was based on the value we could add to the student experience,” said Stephen Porter, marketing department chair for the Barton School. “We felt like there was a need to create an additional educational platform to deliver and reach a student population that was interested in pursuing a marketing major or other available business degrees.”

“The online pathway for the International Business degree provides students with more accessibility and flexibility in their degree options,” added Masud Chand, management department chair for the Barton School. “It combines the Barton School's tradition of rigorous and high-quality teaching with innovative and flexible delivery options.”

While the Barton School tailors its online degrees to the adult learner, these online degrees are open and available to all qualified students. The college even provides customized degree plans through Wichita State’s Bachelor of Business Administration degree.

"We are extremely excited to add another learning modality for our Accounting students,” said Gregory Merrill, director for the School of Accountancy at WSU. “Online degrees support the mission of Wichita State and the Barton School of Business to provide opportunities to students of all backgrounds and preferred learning methods."
