Adding to its myriad points of pride, Wichita State University has been named the most affordable, LGBTQ-friendly college in the state.
Student Loan Hero, a company that helps student loan borrowers make well-informed repayment decisions, took its statistics on the most affordable colleges and universities and paired it with information from Campus Pride, which developed an Index to examine LGBTQ acceptance on college campuses based on policies, administrative support, campus community involvement and other factors.
For LGBTQ Pride Month, Student Loan Hero researchers culled colleges and universities with a high Pride Index score and ranked these schools based on affordability, putting Wichita State at number one in the state of Kansas and number 27 nationally.
“This is fantastic news to learn about our ranking,” said Alicia Sanchez, director of Wichita State’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion. “Wichita State strives to not only be an inclusive campus but affordable for all of our students. A great example of supporting our LGBTQ students is the Richard D. Muma and Rick A. Case Equality Scholarship. Endowing a scholarship or giving to this scholarship fund are great ways to continue the work of our office and the university.”
