Students, faculty and staff are asked not to come to campus.

  • Students: Check your WSU email or Blackboard with information regarding classes. Housing and Residence Life remains open.
  • Staff: Employees are not expected to perform work during the declared inclement weather event. Only employees identified as critical to maintaining campus operations are asked to come to campus. If you have any questions, reach out to your supervisor.
  • Faculty: Instructors are asked not to hold class on campus. You are encouraged to make every effort to hold class remotely and communicate that decision via WSU email or Blackboard to your students. If you choose to cancel class, please communicate immediately with students.
  • Student employees: Only student employees identified as critical to maintaining campus operations are asked to come to campus. If you have any questions, reach out to your supervisor.

We understand there are employees who must still report to campus to oversee facilities, public safety, and research activities; and we appreciate your dedication and contributions.

All employees should follow inclement weather procedures for timekeeping and leave reporting.

Sincerely,

Dr. Shirley Lefever, interim provost

Werner Golling, vice president for finance and administration

Frequently Asked Questions

General

Why is the campus being closed due to inclement weather?

The primary reason why the campus may be closed is for safety. Closing the campus reduces the number of employees and students on the roads during periods of weather when it may not be safe to travel, especially longer distances. Closing the campus also allows the university to clear roads, parking lots and sidewalks without working around cars.

Who determines when inclement weather is declared for WSU?

The president and his designee(s) determine inclement weather closures. These decisions are frequently made in consultation with the provost and vice president for finance and administration.

Employees

Can classes be held remotely during an inclement weather shutdown?

Instructors are encouraged to make every effort to hold class remotely and communicate that decision via WSU email or Blackboard to students. If an instructor cancels class, they are asked to immediately communicate with students.
