Invitation to screening of ‘Intelligent Lives' on Oct. 25
Join the special education programs for a screening of “Intelligent Lives,” a film by Dan Habib, from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, in 211 Hubbard Hall. The event is free but registration is required.
“Intelligent Lives” stars three pioneering young American adults with intellectual disabilities – Micah, Naieer and Naomie – who challenge perceptions of intelligence as they navigate high school, college and the workforce.
Students can request their professional development hours at registration.

Shocker Women's Basketball is looking for an energetic, positive and self-motivated Wichita State student to emcee at our women's basketball games this season! This position will assist with in-game promotions, interact with fans and create energy throughout the game.
The responsibilities and duties of this position include but are not limited to, memorizing a script as well as being able to think quickly on your feet and adapt to new situations while interacting with the crowd. The time commitment for this position is the ability to work all game days, including holidays if needed.

Graduate School Professional Development Series presents ‘Microaggressions & the Classroom' today (Wednesday, Oct. 10)
“Microaggressions & the Classroom” will be offered from noon-1:30 p.m. tomorrow (Wednesday, Oct. 10) in 142 RSC. Presenters will be Alicia Sanchez and Danielle Johnson, Office of Diversity & Inclusion; Carolyn Speer, Instructional Design & Access; Kevin Harrison, Diversity & Community Engagement.
Microaggressions are covert and unintended discrimination towards socially marginalized groups. The interactive training encourages an environment of self-exploration into social identities and microaggressions. Participants will learn the types of microaggressions and reflect on ways to address them and foster an inclusive environment.
***This will be part of a series of events with a pedagogical focus that students are eligible to take throughout the year to earn an alternative credential (non-credit badge)***
An invitation to adopt Kanbee's Wichita State art
Anyone is free to grab a piece of Kanbee art on the Wichita State campus.
Last month, Wichita State invited the anonymous artist known as “Kanbee” to display his figures and symbols on the expanded areas of campus, including entrances on 17th Street, 21st Street and Oliver, and at Braeburn Square and near Starbucks.
Now that the exhibit time is finished, the figures are available for adoption. Around 15-20 remain planted at various locations.

Transition Mentors are the student leaders who assist with summer Orientation programs and serve as mentors to new students during the fall semester. ‘The Laramie Project' to be shown Thursday, Oct. 11
“The Laramie Project,” a presentation in recognition of National Coming Out Day and the 20th anniversary of the murder of Matthew Shepard on Oct. 12, 1998, will be shown at 7 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday, Oct. 11) in the CAC Theater. The presentation features performers from Stage9 Productions in Hutchinson. Admission is free.
Shepard was brutally murdered in Laramie, Wyoming. His only crime was who he loved. This event proved instrumental in the development of hate crime laws throughout the United States. “The Laramie Project” draws on hundreds of interviews conducted by the theatre company with inhabitants of the town, company members' own journal entries and published news reports.
WSU Weekly Briefing set for Thursday, Oct. 11

Housing and Residence Life Office will be closed during move
The Housing and Residence Life (HRL) Office will be closed Friday, Oct. 12, while staff move to the new HRL offices in Shocker Hall. The information desks at both Shocker Hall and The Flats will remain open and maintain their regular hours of operation.
Starting Monday, Oct. 15, the Housing & Residence Life main office will be officially located in Shocker Hall A Building. Thank you for your patience during this transition!
First African Night to be held in RSC Shirley Beggs Ballroom
African Night
The African and Caribbean Student Association will have its first "African Night" coming up at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, in the third floor, Shirley Beggs Ballroom in the RSC. Admission is $7 for WSU students and $10 for non-WSU students.
The purpose of this event is to showcase the African culture through African music, food, dance, drama and fashion. Don't forget to invite all of your friends and experience African culture at its finest.

Garba Night invitation for Oct. 13
Garba is a traditional Indian dance form performed in the state of Gujarat, India. This dance is performed during the festival of Navratri, a nine-day festival celebrated for praying and thanking the different goddesses in Hindu mythology. This year, from 7-11:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, in the Shirley Beggs Ballroom, third floor, Rhatigan Student Center, AHINSA is organizing a Garba Night to celebrate the festival of Navratri. Admission is free.
Wichita State announces on sale dates for downtown game
Wichita State and Intrust Bank Arena announced ticket prices and on sale dates for the Shockers' annual downtown game against Southern Miss, scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15.
WSU students will have access to their normal allotment of student tickets. Pickup dates for all 2018-19 home games will be announced later this month.
Wichita State men's basketball season ticket holders will have first opportunity to
claim seats during a special presale period, Oct. 15-19. Tickets go on sale to the
general public at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, with prices starting at just $18.
Fans may purchase seats by phone at 855-755-SEAT, online at selectaseat.com or by visiting the Select-A-Seat Box Office at INTRUST Bank Arena.
Primary WSU season ticket account holders should have received a letter with specific
details. In order to protect the integrity of the Shocker Athletics Priority Points

Fran Cook from the Office of Research will present “Clear, Concise and Successful Proposals” from 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, in 301 Rhatigan Student Center. This workshop will provide grant-writing tips and resources. Funders and their reviewers want proposals that are clear, concise and consistent. Learn some hands-on approaches to improving your grant-writing skills and helpful strategies for responding to a variety of funders and funding opportunities.

Doctoral students need participants for their research projects
Two WSU graduate students (Doctor of Audiology and Doctor of Philosophy) need participants for their research projects. They are studying an existing and a newly developed clinical technique for evaluating function of the middle ear.
Participants must be between the ages of 18 and 35, have normal hearing, have not had an ear infection in the past three months, nor had a cold or flu in the past two weeks.
Participants will receive a free comprehensive hearing evaluation and ear examination prior to testing. The testing will take about an hour. 2018 Ad Astra Film Studies Conference coming Oct. 17
The 2018 As Astra Film Studies Conference (AAFSC) is being held from 8:15 a.m.-4:20 p.m. Wednesday Oct. 17, in 261 and 256 Rhatigan Student Center. The book signing by keynote speaker Laura Kirk is at 11:30 a.m.
AAFSC coincides with the start of the 16th Annual Tallgrass Film Festival in Wichita, and Communications Week, sponsored by the Elliott School of Communication at WSU.
Conference themes include film criticism, film in education and filmmaking/makers.
AAFSC welcomes students, faculty, staff and members of the local community.
Registration is recommended, but no fee is required. Entry is on a first-come, first-admitted basis.
