Wichita State to hold ribbon cutting for launch of WSU Bike Share ICT

You are invited to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the launch of WSU Bike Share ICT on the Wichita State campus.

The event is noon-1 p.m. today (Wednesday, March 6) on the northeast side of the Rhatigan Student Center at the bike station. Mayor Jeff Longwell will take part in the ceremony.

Writer, comedian, Internet personality, and 2016 People’s Choice Award Winner Matt Bellassai will present a comedy show at 7 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday, March 7), in Hughes Metropolitan Complex, presented by Student Activities Council.

Tickets can be purchased for $5 to students with WSU ID (limit one per person). All ticket options can be purchased in the Student Involvement Office, 216 Rhatigan Student Center with cash or check only. General admission tickets can also be purchased online, via credit card, at WSUMatt.eventbrite.com*.

Tickets are on sale through 3 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday, March 7). Ticket sales will reopen when doors open at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 7. 


WSU Weekly Briefing to feature Shock the Future

The WSU Weekly Briefing will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 7, in the Marcus Welcome Center.

Tracee Friess, director of communications for research and technology transfer, will provide an overall university update.

The briefing will be livestreamed and available later that day at WSU Weekly Briefing. There will be time for questions following the briefing.

The showcase kick-off will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday, April 15, in 233 Rhatigan Student Center.

Call for submissions

All students, faculty, staff, student organizations and departments are invited to submit entries that are examples of diversity or highlight successes related to diversity. We are looking for all kinds of diversity entries from individual / group projects, workshops, events, mixed media, photography or artwork. The deadline for submission is 5 p.m. Friday, March 15.

Research study: Coping with negative thoughts

Experiencing negative thoughts such as “Something is wrong with me,” “I’ll never make it,” and “No one understands me,” is a common experience for many people. A research project is currently underway in the Department of Psychology investigating different ways of coping with such negative thoughts.

If you are interested in seeing if you qualify to participate in this project, and are age 18 years or older, please follow the link below to complete a 20-30 minute screening survey. Individuals taking part in this screening survey can either choose to be entered into a drawing for a $40 Amazon gift card, or to receive 2 SONA credits for WSU courses (you must be a current WSU student to receive SONA credits).

Qualifying individuals will be contacted to schedule their participation for an in-person portion of the study. Those who proceed through this in-person phase will be entered into another drawing for a $40 Amazon gift card, and / or receive 7 SONA credits for WSU courses, in addition to possibly learning some new ways to better manage your own negative thoughts.

Seeking participants for a paid study investigating effects of computer monitor resolution on user performance / experience

Computer users, 18 or older, are sought to participate in a research study investigating the effects of computer monitor resolution on user performance and experience. Do you digitally create / edit illustrations, photos, textures or animation?

The study will take place in McKinley Hall, and last about 90 minutes. Participants will earn $25 or six SONA credits if enrolled in a WSU psychology course.

Graduate student seeking participants for coping with depression research project

A WSU graduate student working on her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology is seeking volunteers to participate in a project that compares two approaches for coping with depression. This study will be conducted within the Department of Psychology (Jabara Hall) under the supervision of Robert Zettle, and will require your involvement for 18- 20 weeks. The study involves eight weekly treatment sessions.

The first two weeks involve one hour sessions and the remaining six sessions will be half-hour sessions. Participants who complete all sessions will be contacted one week and two months later for follow-up measures.

Participants must be at least 18 and will be screened in three stages to determine their eligibility. 

If you are interested, complete an online survey (30 minutes) to assess your initial eligibility.  The next two stages will be conducted in person for 20 and 50 minutes respectively.
