Student-Athlete Success Center moves forward
A plan to build a new Student-Athlete Success Center and renovate parts of Charles Koch Arena is moving forward.
Wichita-based construction firm Hutton has been awarded for the $10.4 million contract for the Wichita State University project.
The WSU project has two main components. The largest is construction of the Student-Athlete Success Center, a 36,000-square-foot facility devoted to the academic and athletic development of students in WSU’s sports programs. The two-level building, to be located just south of Charles Koch Arena, will expand study and tutoring spaces. WSU’s track and cross country programs will also move to the new facility.
Third business dean candidate to visit campus April 8-9
Daniel Goebel, dean and professor of marketing, The W.A. Franke College of Business, Northern Arizona University, will visit Wichita State as a dean candidate for the Barton School of Business on Monday, April 8 and Tuesday, April 9.
Faculty, staff and students are invited to a public forum at 3:30 p.m. Monday, April 8, in 204 Clinton Hall. Information is also available on the Academic Affairs website.
Applications are open for Shocker Leadership Awards
Applications are now open for the 7th Annual Shocker Leadership Awards. The Shocker Leadership Awards are a way to recognize the work of student-led organizations, students, faculty and staff at Wichita State University. Recognized student organizations, university affiliated student groups and individuals may be nominated by a student, faculty member, staff member, or organization, or may nominate themselves for one of the awards.
One application form must be completed for every award for which one wishes to be considered. A nomination must have all parts to be considered by the selection committee. It is the responsibility of the nominator to turn in a complete packet. Click on leadership awards to learn more and to submit your application. The deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, April 12. Health Professions Career Fair today (April 3)

WSU students who need professional clothing for career fairs, interviews, and professional development opportunities should come to the Professional Dress Clothing Closet Event from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday and Friday, April 4-5, in Brennan III. Items available may include suits, dress pants, professional shirts or blouses, professional skirts, belts, neckties, briefcases, shoes, cuff links, tie clips and more. No appointment necessary. UAS Tech Forum set for Aug. 21-22 in Salina, seeks technology pitch presentations; application deadline is April 12
The UAS Cluster Initiative’s UAS Tech Forum is being held in Salina, Kansas, this year on Aug. 21-22. The forum is seeking researchers, businesses, startups and entrepreneurs with advanced technology seeking investor capital, licensing or commercialization agreements to give pitch presentations.
If you are interested in getting your company and product in front of manufacturers, entrepreneurs, and investors in the unmanned aerial systems industry, quick pitches are the most efficient way. Spots are limited, don't lose yours!

Come to the Airbus + WSU Innovation Fair on April 16
The spring Airbus+WSU Innovation Fair will be held from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, at Airbus Americas, Inc. 1855 Innovation Blvd. in the Airbus atrium.
The purpose of the fair is to bring together WSU innovation partners, students, staff and faculty together to learn more about the various innovative resources on campus in a marketplace fair setting.

WSU Weekly Briefing to feature College of Engineering senior Chelsea Sewell
The WSU Weekly Briefing will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 4, in the Marcus Welcome Center. The featured speaker will be Chelsea Sewell explaining how she and a Wichita State team created a robotic 3D-printed hand for a local boy.
Tracee Friess, director of communications for research and technology transfer, will provide an overall university update.
The briefing will be livestreamed and available later that day at WSU Weekly Briefing. There will be time for questions following the briefing.

Acting on depression project at Wichita State
Depression is one the most common and debilitating of all mental health conditions. Nearly 20 percent of us will experience depression at some point during our lifetime, and within this year it is projected by the World Health Organization to become the second leading cause of disability worldwide.
A project is currently underway in the Department of Psychology at Wichita State University to investigate different variations of behavioral activation in helping individuals better manage and cope with depression. This program, conducted by Yvonne Chaw, a doctoral student in clinical psychology, under the supervision of Robert Zettle, director of Clinical Training, seeks volunteer participants who are currently experiencing at least a moderate level of depression.
Those interested in participating in the project will first be asked to complete a brief, online screening survey. Interested individuals 18 or older experiencing a least a moderate level of depression can access the brief screening survey.
Comparisons with other psychological approaches, as well as medication, has identified behavioral activation as one of the more effective means of coping with depression. As its name suggests, behavioral activation stresses the importance of systematically re-engaging in a range of activities that are often abandoned in the face of depression.
Those interested in participating in the project will first be asked to complete a brief, online screening survey that assesses their level of depression and obtains some relevant background information. Those who qualify will be contacted with additional information and details about further participating in the treatment phase of this project which consists of eight weekly, individual sessions following some further assessment.
Our hope is that participants will learn some new strategies for more effectively coping with depression and that the overall findings from this project may also help improve psychological services offered to others who also struggle with it.

Innovation Fellow brings STEAM education to children
Christian Ammerman, Secondary English Education and English Literature Arts major, was recently recognized as a University Innovation Fellow.
Stanford University’s Hasso Plattner Institute of Design recognizes students from across the country every year to be a part of this prestigious national program, and this year there are six from WSU. The program seeks to empower these students to be leaders and increase campus engagement, entrepreneurship and innovation.

“Hotel Tempus” celebrates the bizarre, providing refuge for even the strangest and most sinister beings in the universe. This photographic exhibition explores topics such as escapism, fear, and the uncanny while documenting strange happenings around a fictitious hotel for time travelers.

‘Golden Dolor’ by Morgen Ulrich in Cadman Art Gallery – Looking Glass
“Golden Dolor” is an art exhibition presented by student artist Morgen Ulrich. Her work will be on display from now to Friday, April 12, in Cadman Art Gallery, first floor, RSC.
“Golden Dolor” seeks to convey emotions universally experienced through different mediums. While black and white throughout, the works are combined with hints of gold intentionally to show the breakthrough one strive for with their encounters. The artist creates a familiar setting that the viewer can connect with the show there are possibilities in perseverance.
