The Involvement Fair from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. today (Wednesday, Aug. 28) on the RSC north patio is an opportunity for Wichita State students to learn about WSU Registered Student Organizations (RSOs).
The Involvement Fair is also an opportunity for RSOs to meet new students, and to collaborate with other organizations. The Involvement Fair is one of the best opportunities to get involved in campus life at Wichita State.
Student organizations set up displays and have members on site talk to visitors one-on- one about what their organization does on campus. Involvement in co-curricular experiences is one of the most important parts of having a successful college career!

Learn how to build a ceramic bowl and help fight hunger at fun-filled workshop today
Join us from 4:30-7 p.m. today (Wednesday, Aug. 28) in Henrion Hall for the Empty
Bowls: Community Build-a-Bowl Workshop. The event aims to fight hunger in our community,
while also teaching you how to make a one-of-a-kind ceramic bowl with the WSU Ceramics
Guild as they demonstrate ceramic wheel-throwing and introduce new hand-building techniques.
The bowl you make will be donated to the Empty Bowls Chili Cook-off fundraiser on
Oct. 5 to benefit the Kansas Food Bank. The workshop is free and open to the public.
Empty Bowls Chili Cook-off is in collaboration with the WSU Ceramics Guild, Ceramics
Media, and the School of Art, Design and Creative Industries, and WSU's Ulrich Museum
of Art.
Youth mentoring opportunity for three credit hours this fall
The INSPYRE research lab directed by Samantha Gregus is currently recruiting undergraduate mentors for a three-hour course in the fall 2019 semester. Mentors eat lunch with an elementary school student twice each week. In return, mentors receive three hours of course credit and many great experiences.
Mentors are required to undergo background checks, have reliable transportation to and from the elementary school, and should have availability from noon-2 p.m. at least twice a week.
We do not meet regularly like a traditional class (time mentoring takes the place of class time). We do, however, have a course syllabus, class readings, and paper assignments. Mentors will receive training at the beginning of the course and a grade at the end based on attendance and completion of assignments. Women's Glee Club still accepting singers
WSU's Women's Glee Club is still open for new members!
The ensemble performs an eclectic mix of classical, folk, and popular music, reflecting
the diverse musical interests of its members. Women's Glee performs annual fall and
spring concerts, participates in the Candlelight Christmas concert, and performs as
part of athletic, academic, and social functions throughout WSU's campus.
Women's Glee Club is a non-auditioned choir, so anyone with a treble voice (soprano-alto
range) who wants to sing in this ensemble is able to do so! Simply register for the

Learn about Ablah Library and Writing Literature Reviews at workshops
University Libraries will hold two Savvy Researcher workshops during the week of Sept.
1.
The first workshop, “Writing a Literature Review,” will be from 4-5 p.m. Wednesday,
Sept. 4, in 217 Ablah Library. Learn all the steps to create a literature review,
from conducting comprehensive research to synthesizing perspectives to presenting
your findings in this very helpful workshop.
The second workshop, “Tour Ablah Library,” will be from noon- 1 p.m. Friday, Sept.
6, and will start in 217 Ablah Library. See the VR Zone, the One-Button Studio and
other multi-media project development tools, as well as study rooms, collections,
and other spaces. We will also get a brief introduction to article databases other
off-campus access to library resources.

WSU Weekly Briefing to feature Tonya Witherspoon and applied learning
The WSU Weekly Briefing will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, in the Marcus Welcome Center. The featured speaker will be Tonya Witherspoon addressing advancements in applied learning at Wichita State.
Tracee Friess, director of communication for research and technology transfer, will provide an overall university update.
The briefing will be livestreamed and available later that day at WSU Weekly Briefing. There will be time for questions following the briefing.
‘Mikrokosmos’ is looking for readers
“Mikrokosmos,” Wichita State's literary journal, is looking for readers!
If you're interested in publishing, enjoy writing, or just like to read, this community is for you. Readers for Mikro can choose to read either fiction, nonfiction, or poetry submissions, help decide what we print in our journals, and get a behind-the-scenes experience of what it takes to publish a literary journal. All WSU students are welcome to apply.

Teen study participants needed to help explore perceptions of relationships
Are you a parent of a teenager? The INSPYRE research lab is exploring what makes relationships
healthy or unhealthy in adolescence
Purpose of this study: To explore perceptions of healthy and unhealthy relationships
in teens
Procedures: After parental consent and teen assent has been obtained, teens will be
asked to participate in a survey that gathers information on demographics and perceptions
of dating relationships.
Time: This survey will take approximately 20 minutes to complete
Eligibility Criteria: Participants must be 13-19 years old, and must be fluent in
English
We provide flexible locations for study participation! Study participation can be
done:

Special exhibition on WSU campus showcases artist's commemoration of NASA Apollo missions
From now to Nov. 17, a piece of space race history is viewable on Wichita State University’s campus. A special exhibition titled “Lowell Nesbitt: Apollo 1969” is on display at the Experiential Engineering Building, and features prints made by artist Lowell Nesbitt. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
A reception celebrating the exhibition will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29 on the second floor of the Experiential Engineering Building. The reception is free and open to the public.
Nesbitt was commissioned by NASA in 1969 to commemorate its Apollo 9 and 13 missions as part of the NASA Art Program. The exhibit was made possible through a new program at WSU’s Ulrich Museum of Art called Ulrich Connections, which ties the museum’s robust exhibition and event programming more directly to the world outside its walls.
"Lowell Nesbitt: Apollo, 1969" is cosponsored by WSU’s College of Engineering and NASA in Kansas.
Ulrich Director Leslie Brothers said the exhibition was not only a way to connect with other campus units, but also tapped into the ongoing excitement of celebrating the moon landing exactly a half century ago. Brothers said displaying the exhibition in the Experiential Engineering Building was a perfect match because WSU faculty and students continue to conduct NASA-funded research there.
“As a university art museum, we are making connections through the collection around what people care about – across campus and in the community,” Brothers said.
Scott Miller, professor and chair of aerospace engineering at WSU and director of the NASA in Kansas organization, said visitors to the exhibition would find Nesbitt's artwork just as exciting today as audiences did the first time around.
"The Ulrich Museum, through the art of Lowell Nesbitt, once again captures the sights and emotions of an amazing time," Miller said. "The NASA in Kansas organization is extremely proud to play a small role in this exhibit.”
