Statement from Regents Chair Bill Feuerborn on Wichita State University
Wichita State University President Jay Golden has submitted his resignation to the Kansas Board of Regents. The Board is thankful for his service. We are appreciative of his hard work and dedication to the university and are grateful for his commitment to serving students. We wish him well in all his future endeavors.
Wichita State Provost Rick Muma will serve as acting president while the Board considers options for an interim president. We are thankful that Rick is willing to step into this role.

Wichita State awarded $300,000 grant to address sexual violence on campus
Wichita State University was recently named a recipient of the Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women’s Grant to Reduce Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking on Campus. The award will allocate $100,000 annually for the next three years to address this important issue on campus.
Principle Investigator Marci Young, CAPS Prevention and Outreach Director, worked with the Community Psychology Department and the Prevention Services Advisory Board on the application to bring this funding to campus and reduce gender-based violence in our community.
The program provides a unique opportunity for institutions of higher education to establish multidisciplinary approaches to combat domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking on campuses. These comprehensive efforts are designed to enhance victim services, implement prevention and education programs, and develop and strengthen security and investigation strategies in order to prevent, prosecute, and respond to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
The Campus Program supports activities that develop campus-based coordinated responses which include campus victim services, law enforcement, health care providers, housing officials, administrators, student leaders, faith-based organizations, student organizations, and disciplinary boards, and that enhance victim safety and assistance and hold offenders accountable.

Fire alarm testing to occur throughout fall
WSU Fire Safety along with Sandifer Engineering will conduct required annual fire alarm testing in all campus buildings. These tests are important to ensure the fire alarm systems are operating properly.
There is no specific day or time any one building will be tested. These tests could last through the end of November.
On the Innovation Campus, tests will be conducted at the Crash Lab, Law Enforcement Training Center, John Bardo Center, The Flats and The Suites only.
Every effort will be made to minimize disruption to daily business and classes. If the fire alarm does go off, evacuate the building unless directed otherwise.

Applications for the First-Year Research Experience (FYRE) in STEM due Oct. 1
The deadline for students to submit applications to participate in the First Year Research Experience (FYRE) in STEM program is quickly approaching. The mission of the FYRE program is to introduce research to first-year undergraduates in a practical and accessible way.
Students selected for the FYRE program will be required to enroll in an introductory research seminar course that exposes them to research methods and are matched with research positions in WSU labs actively involved in scholarly STEM research. Applications will be accepted until Thursday, Oct. 1.

Shocker Printing Solutions to work remotely
Shocker Printing Solutions is working remotely while work is being done to level the floors. There will be no service window hours during this time.
Shocker Printing Solutions employees will process printing jobs offsite and bring them back to campus for delivery to your offices. Please plan ahead and allow additional time to meet your printing deadlines. We expect the work to be completed by Oct. 19, and business will resume as usual.
TRIO DSS is accepting student applications for the 2020-21 Academic school year
WSU's TRIO Disability Support Services (DSS) Program is excited to enroll students with disabilities for this academic school year. They offer numerous free services such as academic advising, career development, study skills assistance, financial literacy assistance, tutoring, and more. Many DSS graduates cite DSS as a critical program on campus that provided the support, university connections, and resources necessary for their success.
I will apply what I have learned through TRIO DSS to the next chapter of my life - completing a Master's Degree! I am really thankful for the relationships that I have formed through TRIO DSS and look forward to what new challenges there are to conquer in my near future.

Collegiate Leadership Competition Team applications open
Apply to be on Wichita State’s first VIRTUAL Collegiate Leadership Competition Team. This competition takes place during the spring semester (February to April). We are looking to fill four spots.
What you need to know:
- This is a FREE experiential opportunity!
- The competition will take place virtually during the spring semester, with meetings and trainings taking place during the fall. All practice and team meetings will be held in a hybrid format.
- Participants will engage in virtual leadership activities that focus on transferrable skills, exploration and practice, networking, and refining leadership skills.
- Each participant will receive a swag pack.
- Applications due by Sunday, Oct. 4

Virtual panel series seeks to identify critical conversations surrounding the pandemic
How are "expert" perspectives formed in relation to the pandemic? How is research done and what resources are needed?
In this series, library and departmental faculties will explore approaches and methodologies for researching the impacts of COVID-19, as well as issues relating to the disruption and potentials of academic research during a pandemic.

Elements Multi-Media Art Competition exhibit submissions are now open
Elements is a juried multi-media art competition that students may submit works in the areas of painting, drawing, printmaking, mixed-media and ceramics. The panel of jurors, comprised of Wichita and surrounding community artists, select a Best of Show as well as first and second place winners in each division.
Students wishing to participate may submit up to six pieces in any of the five categories offered. Submissions close Wednesday, October 14. Show Opens Monday, November 9 Monetary prizes are awarded to winners in all categories including an Audience Choice Award. ‘Be Seen’ exhibit opens in the Cadman Gallery
“Be Seen” is a local arts-based campaign to increase voter turnout, civic engagement and dialogue on modern political issues in Wichita. This project focuses on engagement from first-generation immigrants, especially those from Asian and Asian-American backgrounds.
“Be Seen” will be on display on the first floor of the RSC in the Cadman Art Gallery from today (Monday, Sept. 28)-Friday, Oct. 9. There will be a reception in the gallery from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2.

First-Generation Shocker Art Exhibition deadline extended -- All media artist call
The 2020 deadline for the First-Generation Shocker Art Exhibition has been extended to midnight tonight (Monday, Sept. 28).
The First-Generation Coordinating Council (FGCC) and the First-Generation Students Organization (FGSO) invite all Wichita State University first-generation college students to apply and participate in its first All Media Art Exhibition. This art exhibition will showcase WSU's creative and talented first-generation students through the display of unique artwork.
Theme: Identity is the way we perceive and express ourselves, and includes the factors and conditions we are born with. One's identity may change over time depending on our unique circumstances and life experiences. Current WSU first-generation students are encouraged to create unique artwork based on the theme "Identity."
Entry Process: Each entrant can submit up to three original pieces. Please make sure that all images submitted are professional quality; images submitted should be clear, well lit, and the artwork should be straight on the image. Multiple side images of three-dimensional work can be submitted. It is free to enter your art.

A Master Plan is a long-range planning document that lays out a community's vision for its growth. Communities use Master Plans to guide land use, economic development, transportation, health and other dimensions of civic life.
A healthy and sustainable regional food system can bring economic, environmental and social benefits to a community, but these benefits don't happen automatically. Food systems need planning, too! Planning brings structure and strategy to local food systems’ growth, and helps align policies, such as ordinances, zoning and incentives to support the local food system.

Please lock your car doors, hide your belongings, put them in the trunk, or take your belongings with you.
These tips will help to reduce your vulnerability to theft. WSU PD is working to reduce and prevent crime and ask for your help in these efforts.
