President Bardo addresses WSU's evolving approach to academic credentials
President John Bardo is in Washington, D.C. to address the House Committee on Education and the Workforce about some of the initiatives at Wichita State that are gaining national attention.

WSU Weekly Briefing to feature a significant gift
Tracee Friess, director of communications for research and technology transfer, will announce a significant gift at the WSU Weekly Briefing at 10 a.m. tomorrow (Thursday, July 26) in the Marcus Welcome Center.
In addition to other campus updates, some Master of Innovation Design students will talk about their participation in a national competition to improve the design of a Johnson & Johnson product.
There will be time for questions at the end of the briefing.
The briefing will be available live and later that day at https://wsu.news/Youtube.
WSU Tech launches new scholarship program
At the National Center for Aviation Training, WSU Tech will pay tuition and fees, relocation and cost of living expenses and provide a guaranteed job interview with a new “Wichita Promise Move” scholarship program. The goal of the Wichita Promise Move is to relocate people who live at least 75 miles outside of the Wichita area to receive training and an employment opportunity at no cost to the student. WSU Tech hopes to attract 25 to 30 people who live outside Kansas and another 25 to 30 people who live in the state but outside a 75-mile radius of Wichita.
Among the companies offering guaranteed job interviews to Wichita Promise Move students is Textron Aviation Inc. Textron Aviation Inc. is the leading general aviation authority and home to the Beechcraft, Cessna and Hawker brands. Spirit AeroSystems, a longtime partner of WSU Tech, will also guarantee interviews to these students. Spirit AeroSystems is one of the largest suppliers for the Boeing Company.
WSU Tech has a strong track record of delivering opportunities that help students receive short-term training that lead them to a career in a high-demand technical field. In April 2016, WSU Tech launched the Wichita Promise scholarship program aimed at assisting residents in the Wichita area.

KPERS 457 announces fund change
From July 27-30, KPERS 457 is replacing some of its current funds with lower-cost versions of the same funds. Participants will not be able to make changes in their accounts after the market closes on Friday, July 27, and until the plan reopens Monday, July 30.
There may be a slight delay in our posting payroll contributions to participant accounts that weekend. Contributions received on Thursday, July 26 or Friday, July 27 can't be posted to accounts until Monday, July 30 (or Tuesday, July 31, if you transmit after market close on July 27).
We'll have a popup note inside the participant website around these dates, to let you know.
Sometime on Monday, July 30, participants will again be able to make changes in their accounts. If you have any questions, call Customer Service at 1-800-232-0024, or speak to your local Retirement Plan Counselor.
Participant assets will stay invested and will continue to gain and / or lose value depending on market conditions.

More website triage open labs
There will be Thursday and Friday (alternating mornings and afternoons) sessions for getting your web pages to behave. If you are getting this message but have not been to a basic training class on OmniUpdate (the new CMS that's only been here for a couple of months) then please sign up for a Basic Training class because the triage sessions aren't for you.
All sessions will be in 122 Jabara Hall. They are first-come, first-serve, drop-in, drop-out spots where Mike Marlett, John Jones, Tim Hart and/or Caleb Wilson will be there to answer your questions.

The Community Engagement Institute launches the Strategic Communication Initiatives
CEI is excited to announce the launch of the new Strategic Communication Initiatives
(SCI)! We are constantly looking for ways to evolve as an organization and it became
clear to us in our research and interactions with Kansas communities that there is
a gap between communication needs and services being provided.
Throughout the past year, CEI has been exploring the opportunity to create an official
Initiative related to communication and marketing. Our purpose is to offer services
specifically tailored to the needs of our clients. Through our innovative approach,
we equip nonprofits, organizations, and community coalitions with the tools they need
to reach their community and better accomplish their goals. Depending on client need
and preference, they can either manage their communication efforts with the tools
we provide, or we can manage their communications for them.
This month marks the official launch of the Strategic Communication Initiatives (SCI)
and we're excited to continue connecting with clients, building sustainable solutions,
and helping further the great work being done in Kansas.
All call for WSU Student of the Year judges
The WSU Student of the Year scholarship competition is a competitive and prestigious opportunity for students who have proven exemplary leadership, involvement and service to the WSU and Wichita communities. Applications and nominations are open for students who wish to participate.
We are calling for judges to serve throughout the selection process. We are looking for three different sets of judges, so upon indicating interest, please include which round you would be most interested in serving on as well as your second choice.
Round 1: Application Review – Completed by Tuesday, Oct. 2
- This process would be going through the qualified applicants and meeting to decide on which students move onto the next round. We have seen an increase, so we could be sifting through 60-70 applications depending on how many student apply.
Round 2: Interviews – Friday, Oct. 12
- Our judges' panel will sit through a series of interviews of those selected to move on through the application round. Deliberation and decision on the final court of eight students will follow the interviews.
Round 3: Presentations – Friday, Oct. 19
- This panel will serve as audience to our eight finalists as they present and showcase why they should win the title of WSU Student of the Year and scholarship. There will be two winners this year.
