WSU badge program helps students focus on the workforce
KSN-TV 3 produced a story about how working full time makes it challenging and almost impossible for some to earn a degree at the same time.
That's why Wichita State University is providing another option that President John Bardo shared in the nation's capital Wednesday at an innovation forum.
It's called the Badge Program. To see the TV 3 story, go to Badge Program.
Ground to be broken soon for new Crash Dynamics Lab
Ground will soon break on the new Crash Dynamics Lab on the Innovation Campus development.
The National Institute for Aviation Research is transforming the lab into a premier research facility in order to meet industry standards and expectations.
The new facility will consolidate The Crash Dynamics, Virtual Engineering and Flight Simulation labs, which commonly work together to assist in the development of new aircraft and modification of existing aircraft.
A centrally located lobby will serve as an interactive space and provide a link between the Sled Bay, Engineering Lab and two client spaces, which allow for simultaneous testing preparation. An additional lab testing area and room housing anthropomorphic test dummies will be located next to the sled bay.
Construction on the facility, located at 18th Street and Oliver Ave., is expected to begin in late 2018 and take about a year to complete.
The new premier research facility will allow the lab to expand their services, increase capacity and diversify their client base in order to bring national and international business to the region and provide additional applied research and learning opportunities for students.
Marie Watt to host Open-to-the-Community Sewing Circle
Marie Watt is hosting an Open-to-the-Community Sewing Circle in conjunction with the USSEA Conference this weekend. This event is open to all ages. No sewing experience is required and people can come-and-go as they wish. Additionally, the artist gives participants a small, unique print in exchange for stitches. While there is no expectation to talk or share, Watt observes, “when eyes are diverted and hands are busy, conversation and stories flow.” While the sewing circle does not have a theme, the objects being stitched are related to the Marvin Gaye song “What's Going On” that addresses the social ills of the period in which it was written.
The $40 Community Keynote Pass includes the keynote, workshop, lunch and snack breaks. Attendance at the Sewing Circle only is free of charge.
