New urgent care center will serve the needs of WSU community

Urgent Care Center

Wichita State will be home to the new Wesley Healthcare Urgent Care Center (UCC), thanks to a $3 million partnership between Wesley Healthcare and the Greater Wichita YMCA.

The urgent care center will be located inside the new campus YMCA and is expected to open at the same time, in early 2020.

It will provide extended weekday and weekend hours to serve students, faculty, staff, residents in surrounding communities, and employees of WSU's partner companies.

Expanded transparency opens lines of communication

Public Information page

Wichita State University administrators are clear on their goals for applied learning and research for students and faculty, creation of new technology, formation/acceleration of businesses based on university research, collaboration across academic disciplines, support for local industry and economic growth.

President John Bardo and his team are spreading those ideas across campus and throughout the community and state.

In this period of significant growth and change, they know that not everyone places the same value they do on these ideas and that some people feel left out of the conversation.

This summer, in response, the university administration has made several moves designed to increase transparency and expand communication.

Register to participate in the Shocker Resource Fair

Resource Fair

The annual Shocker Resource Fair is a great way to tell new Shockers about the opportunities, programs and resources that your department or office have to offer. The fair will take place from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, in the Shocker Hall Plaza. Register here to participate. Registration closes at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17. Changes have been made to the temp and lecturer hiring process

A new process for hiring paperwork is effective today (Monday, Aug. 6) for all lecturer and temporary new hires.

With this change, hiring departments will no longer coordinate with employees to complete the new hire paperwork packet. That part of the process is now centralized within Human Resources, which is responsible for delivering the new hire paperwork packet to the new hire electronically.

This change creates an improved experience for our candidates and creates a more efficient process for the campus community.

Hiring departments will still complete the ePAF for the hires and will coordinate completion of the Spoken English Forms for lecturers. Please send any questions to employment@wichita.edu.

Earn a certificate in Higher Education Leadership

The Department of Counseling, Educational Leadership, Educational and School Psychology (CLES) offers a graduate certificate in Higher Education Leadership. This 15-hour graduate certificate program is now eligible for employee tuition assistance.

It enables working professionals in higher education to increase their skills, knowledge and abilities to compete for professional positions of increasing responsibility and scope. Completing the certificate also makes a student eligible to apply for the Ed.D. in Educational Leadership.

Daily website update

We've done a lot of work so far on the Majors pages based on input from users and from academic departments. While we want to maintain a consistent appearance, approach and experience across the board, we do have the ability to customize. If you run into something on the majors pages or elsewhere on the site that's not displaying right, has inaccurate information or isn't working correctly, let us know! Just use the Web Support form linked in the footer on every page or go to wichita.edu/websupport

The web support site has handled 211 support tickets to date with an average time to completion at 2.9 hours.

There is a come-and-go open lab session on the schedule for 3-5 p.m. today in Jabara Hall Room 122, and another 9-11 a.m. Friday.

Tip of the Day: Spell checking your pages

spell check button

Whether you're creating new pages or just reworking existing content, the new content management system has a basic feature that Department Tools did not: a spell checker.

There are two ways to spell check pages. You can spell-check the page during the Publish step, or you can run a "Page Check" (the check mark icon visible on any checked out page).

The interface is exactly the same either way. The accessibility checker will begin to run automatically, but you can click on the Spelling button to initiate a spelling run.
