Emergency Building Coordinator (EBC) training session announced
Mike Strickland, director of WSU Environmental, Health and Safety, and Cody Charvat, Director of Sedgwick County Emergency Management, will conduct training sessions for Chief Emergency Building Coordinators (CEBC) and Emergency Building Coordinators (EBC) from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7, in 257 RSC.
The training session is for new Chief Emergency Building Coordinators (CEBC) or any current CEBC wishing to attend a refresher session.

Here are some updates from Thursday's Weekly Briefing:
- We're waiting for the official numbers from the Kansas Board of Regents, but all indications are that we're on track to have the largest freshman class ever for the third consecutive year.
- On the housing front, we continue to grow in the availability and quality of options we provide. The Flats at WSU and Shocker Hall are at full capacity, and demand remains strong. Construction on The Suites at WSU continues, and the new housing addition will be ready to take on new students for fall 2019.
- If you haven't stopped in at the Rhatigan Student Center over lunch recently, you definitely should. Pizza Hut, Chick-Fil-A and the Shocker Sports Grill and Lanes continue to be a popular option. And the addition of Freddy's and Panda Express have been the perfect complement to the offerings. At this point, revenue in the RSC is up 47 percent over last year for food service on the first floor.
- This semester is the first time we offered what we call Wuber rides. We had golf carts strategically placed across campus, and anyone wanting a ride to their destination was able to hop on for free. We ended up giving more than 1,000 rides over two days. We hope to offer more Wuber rides again next fall.
Update on CourseLeaf Curriculum (CIM)
Because of unforeseen circumstances, the CIM training dates originally set for September have been postponed. Various changes and updates to the Banner course file have been required for the implementation, pushing the timeline further into the academic year.
Thank you to academic departments who have assisted us in this process thus far. Watch for future announcements for details, including dates for January on-site trainings. Faculty should continue to use the paper curriculum change forms until these CIM trainings are completed.
Shuttle to begin service to WSU South and Shocker Studios on Harry Street
Because of an overwhelming number of requests, shuttle service from main campus to the Harry Street campus will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 4. All pickups and drop-offs will be at the Elliott Hall stop and depart campus at the bottom of the hour.
The first bus will leave the main campus at 7:30 a.m., and arrive at WSU South and Shocker Studios at 7:50 a.m. The bus will then leave the Harry Street location at 8 a.m., returning to the Elliott Hall stop at about 8:20 a.m.
The last bus will leave the Harry Street location at 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 1 p.m. Friday.
In order to provide this service, the university is pulling the Innovation Campus route for the fall semester.
Appointments remaining for one-on-one consultation

Shocker Studios director Justin Rorabaugh looks out of his office at Shocker Studios (3805 E. Harry) and sees many innovation and collaboration possibilities. There are new studios and sound systems, creative spaces under construction and many opportunities to learn and work in the state-of-the-art sound, video and animation studios.
Distinguished Professor Emeritus Bill Wentz to speak on alternative energy outlook
The Geology Department and Earth, Environment and Physical Science (EEPS) program will hold the first of this semester's Technical Sessions from 3:30-4:30 p.m. today (Friday, Aug. 31) in 101 Geology Building. Our speaker will be Bill Wentz, Distinguished Professor Emeritus, Aerospace Engineering, WSU, and Executive Director emeritus, National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR). He will present “The Five “E”s of Alternative Energy and the Future Outlook for Kansas.”
GSA to hold Graduate Student Mentorship Program on Sept. 6
The Graduate Student Mentorship Program facilitates first-year graduate students' transition to Wichita State and graduate student life. All incoming graduate students are invited to participate in this Graduate Student Association (GSA) event. The mentorship program will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, in 266 RSC.

Daily website update
As we approach the Labor Day holiday, this will be our final daily website update. After the break we will only report through WSU Today as needed to inform the WSU community of developments and rollouts of additional phases and features. Those posts will supplement direct communication to the user base, now 390 strong, through the internal communication channels inside the CMS.
This doesn't change anything about our operational stance. The collaboration between Strategic Communications, Media Resources Center and Information Technology Services continues to work to optimize the site and is openly seeking input. If you are encountering problems, we want to know about it. To that end, we'll continue to make web support and training links available daily in the Reminders section of WSU Today.
We've handled 411 tickets through the web support site with an average time to completion at 5.3 hours. It should be noted that the average time to completion figure is a little misleading, as the vast majority of requests are completed within 2 hours. (Completion of a few longer-term projects, some of which took longer than a week, are skewing the average.)
There is an open lab session from 9-11 a.m. this morning in Jabara Hall Room 122. CMS trainings and open labs are on the schedule through the end of September.

LeaderShape cluster facilitators wanted

The six-day event will take place from Jan. 6-11, 2019. We will also have a facilitator prep and training day on Sunday, Jan. 6. ‘How Do I Write a Literature Review?' workshop
University Libraries will host the workshop, “How Do I Write A Literature Review?,” from noon-1:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, in 217 Ablah Library.
Researchers in all subject areas will learn to create a literature review from conducting comprehensive research, synthesizing perspectives, and presenting findings in this very helpful workshop. Engineering students, please note the workshop on literature reviews using engineering sources on Nov. 16.
This is one in a series of Savvy Researcher workshops this semester. The workshops in this series are open to WSU students, faculty and staff.
