This family-friendly, all ages, free event is set for 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29.
Special appearances by the Go Shockers men's and women's basketball teams, Wichita State Cheerleading, Wichita State Dance, Wichita State Shocker Sound, Coaches Gregg Marshall and Keitha Adams, WuShock and Don Hall!
Food trucks will be on hand for dinner and include LumpiaPalooza, LoLo's Crêpes, The Brown Box Bakery and Drink Local Truck!

New WSU buttons available for purchase through Monday, Oct. 22
WSU's highly popular Shocker-themed buttons are now available for your department to purchase. They make great freebies for students and campus guests—and add a dash of Shocker spirit to your own wardrobe.
The buttons:

- Are 1.5-inch in diameter
- Require a minimum order of 50 buttons for $15

‘Intellectual Property for Beginners' workshop will be held today (Friday, Oct. 19)
The University Libraries is hosting the virtual U.S. Patent and Trademark Office series “Intellectual Property for Beginners” beginning with an overview of intellectual property from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. today (Friday, Oct. 19) in 204 Ablah Library.

Don't miss India Night 2k18
India Night 2k18 is one of the biggest events hosted by the Indian Student Association WSU. You're invited to attend at 7 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday, Oct. 20) in the CAC Theater.
It is a colorful night filled with entertainment and extravagance at the best. We familiarize the west about India by showcasing the Indian cultures and traditions in the form of stage performances and serving Indian cuisine. The event is conducted to enrich and exhibit cultural habits, traditions, costumes, religions, languages and dialects spread across India.
The authentic Indian cuisine (Bhojan) will be served by Godavari from Kansas City from 5-7 p.m. in 233 RSC. Tickets for food are $10 for members, $12 for students, $15 general admission.
The stage show will follow from 7-11 p.m.

Melanie M. Derby in the Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering at Kansas State University, will present an ME Graduate Seminar from 3-4 p.m. Friday, Oc. 19, in 128 Jabara Hall. Derby's talk will be “Multi-phase Flows and Phase Change Heat Transfer in the Food, Energy and Water Nexus.”
Women in Public Service Celebration Event coming Thursday, Nov. 1
Women in Public Service (WPS) Celebration Event will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at Abode Venue, 1330 E. Douglas. Free admission for WPS members, $30 for nonmembers.
Join WPS to honor retiring Sedgwick Co. Undersheriff Brenda Dietzman. As a trailblazer, she's spent her career empowering, encouraging and educating.
The mission of WPS is to “inspire past, current and future generations by addressing topics relevant to women in public service, while instilling knowledge through education, networking and professional development that strengthens the leadership in our local government and communities.”

Bring the family to Trunk or Treat on Saturday, Oct. 20
Trunk or Treat is a fun and safe alternative for families and kids of all ages to interact with Wichita State University student organizations and campus departments, trick or treat, and participate in interactive and festive fall activities. This Halloween-themed carnival tomorrow (Saturday, Oct. 20) south of Charles Koch Arena is packed full with games, activities, inflatables and a petting zoo!
Housing and Residence Life posting reminders
Shocker Hall and The Flats are both happy to help promote programs and other happenings occurring on campus.
If you would like items advertised to the residential student population, please drop off physical flyers at the desk of each building so that posters can be approved before going up on our advertising boards (Shocker Hall can hang five copies, The Flats can hang 15 copies).
You may find that your poster doesn't go up right away; this doesn't mean your poster wasn't approved, but due to the volume of posters we receive, we will only hang posters one week before the event is occurring.
Generally HRL does not approve the hanging of programs not occurring on campus or that showcase alcohol, drugs, profanity, nudity, etc., on the poster. Any unapproved posters or flyers will be removed immediately. We also ask that you refrain from hanging any signage on the front doors to either building, as we only post emergency notifications to this area and do not want residents to get in the habit of ignoring posters in these spaces.
If you would like more exposure for your program, you may also send an electronic version of your poster to the Residence Life Coordinator team (Becca Johnson, Carley Saunders, Lauren Wilson and Rebecca Snow).

Services set for longtime School of Nursing professor
Janice Riordan
Janice "Jan" Mary Riordan (Brick), 83, of Southlake, Texas, died Sept. 17, 2018. Riordan was a longtime professor in the WSU School of Nursing.
A musical memorial service for Riordan will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at the University Congregational Church in Wichita. Donations in Riordan's memory can be made to La Leche League International.
Riordan was a pioneering proponent for breastfeeding and a founding member of the Kansas chapter of La Leche League International. She was the founding editor and co-author of five editions of Breastfeeding and Human Lactation, the leading textbook on human lactation. In addition to authoring five other books, she was a founder of the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners and was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing.
Riordan became a tenured professor in nursing at WSU, where she served on the faculty for 23 years before retiring in 2010. She was Professor Emerita of the School of Nursing at the time of her death. A professorship was endowed at WSU in 2007 to honor Riordan's contributions to nursing education. The Janice M. Riordan Distinguished Professorship in Maternal Child Health, with its focus on breastfeeding education and research, was hailed by the university as the first of its kind in a school of nursing.

Tunnel of Oppression postponed to spring
The Office of Diversity and Inclusion is postponing the Tunnel of Oppression to Monday,
March 4 and Tuesday, March 5, 2019. Tours will run from 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on the third
floor of the Rhatigan Student Center. Check-in for tours will be in the Office of
Diversity and Inclusion in 208 RSC.
The Tunnel of Oppression is a multi-sensory exhibition of some of the most difficult and complex issues we face today. The tunnel experience will demonstrate the concepts of privilege, power and the reality of hate crimes. Experience both covert and open acts of oppression as several communities have experienced them.
Participants are guided through a series of scenes that aim to educate and challenge them to think more deeply about issues of oppression. Some of the topics included in the tunnel are racism, sexism, homophobia, body image, classism, xenophobia, transphobia, ableism and much more. The tour of the Tunnel will be followed by a discussion facilitated by professional staff from the Counseling and Testing Center.
Shocker Street Speak: Meet Wichita
October's episode of Shocker Street Speak features several Student Ambassadors taking
you through their favorite Wichita locations for food, coffee and entertainment. The
students had too many favorites to include, but we were able to feature a variety
in just three-and-a-half minutes.
Shocker Street Speak is a monthly video series produced by the Office of Admissions
and sent to every prospective student and parent in our system -- about 80,000 people!
The goal is to introduce different aspects of Wichita State and the community to all
of our future Shockers.
