WSU professor, student team up with Ocean Spray to stop tooth decay
Wichita State professor David McDonald and graduate assistant Alisha Prince are trying to change the world, one mouth at a time. The team is teaming up with Ocean Spray to research synergistic properties contained in cranberries and other natural extracts that will, in theory, stop the decay of teeth and provide an alternative to traditional oral health care.

On-campus Biometric Screenings today (Tuesday, Oct. 23) and Nov. 6
The last on-campus screening dates are fast approaching, and all appointments have already been filled. It was previously announced that some walk-in appointments were to be available, but one of the screeners was unexpectedly ill today. For that reason, they will not be able to accommodate walk-ins today.
If you are unable to attend an on-campus screening event, there is still time to request an in-home screening kit or a physician form to have the screening performed by your primary care physician. Both of these can be requested by logging into the HealthQuest portal. Health Coaching will also be available in RSC 245, and appointments can be scheduled in the HealthQuest portal.
Medical staff at the screening events are not employed by WSU and are not a part of the HR Total Rewards team. Therefore, they will be unable to answer questions regarding benefits, future screening dates, or the scheduling process. If employees have questions or feedback, they are encouraged to reach out to the HR Total Rewards team at TotalRewards@wichita.edu.
Countdown to the end of Open Enrollment!
There are nine days left to submit 2019 elections! Log in to the Member Administration Portal at https://sehp.member.hrissuite.com to make your elections, even if you don't plan to make any changes. Supervisors will receive emails today (Tuesday, Oct. 23) to notify them of team members who have not yet accessed the Open Enrollment portal to make their elections.

The HRL main office recently moved from The Flats into a newly renovated space in Shocker Hall behind the Information Desk. Longhofer to be keynote speaker for the RSCK Real Estate Forecast today (Tuesday, Oct. 23)

Stan Longhofer, WSU Center for Real Estate professor and director of the Stephen L. Clark Chair of Real Estate and Finance, will be one of two keynote speakers at the RSCK Real Estate Forecast event today (Tuesday, Oct. 23) in Wichita.
Longhofer will provide an overview of the local economy and real estate forecast based on information gathered through annual roundtable discussions with real estate professionals throughout the state. He will introduce the 2019 Kansas Housing Markets Forecast developed by the WSU Center for Real Estate and provide insight into the direction of our economy and local real estate market in the coming year.
‘Burnt Generation' program today (Tuesday, Oct. 23)
You're invited to the program “Burnt Generation: Azadeh Akhlaghi and Zohar Dashti,” at 6 p.m. today (Tuesday, Oct. 23) in the CAC Theater. A reception will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the Ulrich Museum of Art.
The profound social and political upheaval of the 1979 revolution that overthrew the Pahlavi monarchy provides the context for the photographic storytelling of the artists in “Burnt Generation.” Exhibition artists Azadeh Akhlaghi and Gohar Dashti will discuss the personal, political and social themes in their work with Jessica Gerschultz, assistant professor, The Kress Foundation Department of Art History, African / African American Studies, University of Kansas, and Razi Ahmad, Center for Global and International Studies, University of Kansas.
Funding for this program is provided by Humanities Kansas, a nonprofit cultural organization that connects communities with history, traditions, and ideas to strengthen civic life.
One elevator in Hubbard Hall is out of service for maintenance
One of the two Hubbard Hall core elevators will be out of service for maintenance this week through Friday, Oct. 26. The other elevator will remain in service for building floor access as usual.
Facilities Services apologizes for any inconveniences presented by this single elevator shutdown, and we hope to return the elevator to service as soon as possible.
Jane Hodge retirement party set for Friday, Oct. 26

You're invited to a retirement party for Jane Hodge from 3-4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, in 257 RSC.
Hodge worked for Ablah Library for nearly 18 years in various roles and joined the graduate school in 2010 as a domestic admissions officer. We have been impressed by her intelligence, professionalism and dedication.
In the eight years Jane has been a part of the Grad School, she has been solely responsible for handling well over 17,500 domestic applications, and undoubtedly has countless paper-cut scars as evidence.
She has challenged all of us to be better - better employees, better coworkers and better humans. She has spent more than 25 years of her life making Wichita State University a better place - and we are all so fortunate that she has chosen to do so. Thank you Jane, for your continued excellence and dedication to WSU!
Prominent alum Matt Wilson receives honor by Jazz Journalists Association
Wichita State alum Matt Wilson is being honored by the Jazz Journalists Association with the 2018 Musician of the Year and Album of the Year awards.
New York-based drummer and Grammy nominee Matt Wilson is one of today's most celebrated jazz artists. He is universally recognized for his musical and melodic drumming style as well as being a composer, bandleader, producer, impresario and teaching artist. Matt's positive spirit, sense of humor and ability to explore a broad range of musical settings keeps him in constant demand. In addition, Matt's dedication to jazz has helped establish him as a beloved world ambassador for the music, on and off the bandstand.
Wilson leads the Matt Wilson Quartet, Arts and Crafts, Christmas Tree-O, Big Happy Family, Topsy Turvy and the Carl Sandburg Project. He has appeared on more than 350 albums as a sideman, has released 12 recordings as a leader for Palmetto Records and has co-led 10 album projects.
Wilson has been featured on the covers of Downbeat, JazzTimes, JazzIz, New York Jazz Record and Coda magazines and was voted #1 Rising Star Drummer in the Downbeat Critic's Poll for five consecutive years. In both 2003 and 2011, he was voted Drummer of the Year by the Jazz Journalists Association and in 2015, he was named Drummer of the Year by the NYC Hot House Fan Decision Awards.
Buddhist monk pursuing business degree at Wichita State
Khamphou Milayome spends his days teaching meditation at the Lao Buddhist Associates temple south of town. By night, he becomes the student at Wichita State's Barton School of Business.

This exciting new resource provides immediate access to more than one million statistics and facts from over 22,000 sources on over 80,000 topics, including media, business, politics, society, technology, health and education. Ready-made charts and infographics can be downloaded in multiple formats for presentations and research papers or embedded in web pages.

Opera Theater to present ‘Street Scene'
Wichita State University Opera Theater will present Kurt Weill's “Street Scene” in semi-staged concert performances at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2 and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, in Miller Concert Hall, Duerksen Fine Arts Center.
WSU Opera Theater is under the direction of Alan Held. The Wichita State University Orchestra, conducted by Mark Laycock, will lead this great piece of opera-music theater.
“Street Scene” is a dramatic portrayal of life on the gritty streets of New York. Much humor surrounds the tragic and exciting plot line. The work includes some of Weill's greatest writing with wonderful arias, great ensembles and fabulous chorus numbers.

Nonconference single game tickets on sale now
Wichita State women's basketball non-conference single game tickets are on sale now
to the public.
Single game tickets for the UConn game and all other conference games will go on
sale Dec. 17. Fans can still purchase season tickets to secure your seat for the UConn game
along with parking.
Additionally, all general admission tickets for the Jan. 20 game vs. Houston are
just $4.
Fans may purchase single game tickets in person at the Shocker Ticket Office (located
at the South Entrance to Charles Koch Arena), by phone (978-FANS) or online (goshockers.com/tickets).
Large groups interested in attending a game this season are encouraged to call the
Ticket Office.
