Tuition Assistance deadline approaching
The Total Rewards team reminds staff and faculty that the deadline for spring 2019 Tuition Assistance applications is near. The deadline of Saturday, Dec. 1 is not a university business day, so applications will be accepted through midnight on Monday, Dec. 3.
Applications with incorrect or incomplete information, including missing signatures, will be returned to the applicant for completion, and will be considered submitted as of the date of submission of the fully completed form. Applications returned for completion will be denied if they are not submitted with all complete and accurate information prior to the deadline. Because of the volume of applications received each semester, late applications will be automatically denied. There will be no exceptions.

Seeking participants for a paid study about computer monitor resolution
Participants are sought for a paid study investigating the effects of computer monitor resolution on user performance and experience.
Do you play computer video games or digitally create / edit illustrations, photos, textures or animation? We are seeking computer users 18 and older to participate in a research study about computer monitor resolution.
The study will take place in McKinley Hall and last about 90 minutes. Participants in the study will earn $25 or six SONA credits if enrolled in a WSU psychology course.
If you are interested in participating, take a few minutes to take the screening survey. If you qualify for the study, you will be contacted by the researcher to schedule a time to participate.

Physics, chemistry lectures today (Wednesday, Nov. 28)
Professor Howard A. Baer from the University of Oklahoma will present “The Search for Supersymmetric Matter at the Large Hadron Collider,” at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, Nov. 28) in 128 Jabara Hall. This is the last lecture in the Fall 2018 Physics Seminar Series.
The Chemistry Colloquium will feature a lecture by Tendai Gadzikwa from the Department of Chemistry at Kansas State University. Gadzikwa will present “Enzyme-Inspired Multifunctionalized Metal-Organic Framework (MOF) Materials,” at 3:30 p.m. today (Wednesday, Nov. 28) in 224 McKinley Hall.
‘Selling your Big Idea' will be hosted by GoCreate tomorrow (Thursday, Nov. 29)
GoCreate will hosting an Innovator and Entrepreneur series, Innovate. Drive. Endeavor. The first session will be from 2-3:30 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday, Nov. 29) in 264 Experiential Engineering Building. Brady Sherman from microMansions will present on customer validation and value proposition.
During this workshop, Sherman will walk you through the process of identifying your market niche, customer validation, value proposition, and why they are necessary for your big idea to succeed. Countless inventors and entrepreneurs launch a new product or business every year. The majority of the launches fail due to skipping over these crucial steps.

Retention Faculty Fellows will work with Student Success and Success Coaches to support the goals of the Strategic Enrollment Management Plan and identify and support students in their college who may be at risk of not persisting to graduation. Notice of Revisions to the Federal Policy for the Protection of Human Subjects
The revised “Common Rule” for the protection of human subjects is set to go into effect on Monday, Jan. 21, 2019. This involves some big changes in the way research is reviewed and approved by the IRB. In order to implement the changes, there will be a submission freeze on all new study submissions from Dec. 15, 2018 to Jan. 21, 2019.

WSU Choirs will present the 56th Annual Candlelight Concert: “The Marvel of This Night” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30; 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2; and 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, in Wiedemann Concert Hall. For tickets, go to Fine Arts Box Office or call 978-3233.
Get in the spirit of the season with an incredible variety of music, featuring perennial favorites “Beautiful Savior” and “Personent Hodie.” Other highlights include “Before the Marvel of This Night” by Carl Schalk, and “Night of Silence” by Daniel Kantor. The concert celebrates the 200th anniversary of the beloved Christmas carol, “Silent Night.”
The concert features WSU's Concert Chorale and Women's Glee Club, conducted by Michael Hanawalt, and A Cappella Choir and Madrigal Singers, conducted by Tom Wine.
Each choir will also perform separately and as part of a mass choir. Also featured are organist and professor Lynne Davis and pianist and professor Justine Sasanfar.
Started by Harrison Boughton and modeled after the famous St. Olaf College Christmas Festival, the Candlelight Concert is the longest-running musical tradition at Wichita State.
Retirement reception for Carol Smith today (Wednesday, Nov. 28)

Weekly Briefing to feature applied learning in political science at WSU
The WSU Weekly Briefing will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow (Thursday, Nov. 29) in the Marcus Welcome Center.
Gentry Thiessen will share how applied learning in political science benefits Wichita State students.
Kevin Harrison, community engagement coordinator, Diversity and Community Engagement, will give the overall university update.
The briefing will be livestreamed and available later that day at WSU Weekly Briefing. There will be time for questions following the briefing.
Register for Springfest 2019
Student Involvement and Campus Recreation invite you to register for Springfest 2019. Springfest is a kick-off for the spring semester for both student organizations and university departments. Located in the Heskett Center gym, this event is a way for WSU students to check out the different organizations we have on campus, as well as discover the amazing resources this campus offers. Send a letter from Santa
The campus post office is selling letters from Santa now until Friday, Dec. 14. Letters will be sent to Santa Claus, Indiana, for a pictorial postmark, and then forwarded to the address you put on the envelope.

Come see the Koch Innovation Challenge this Friday, Nov. 30
Come and encourage nearly 30 multidisciplinary teams of first-year WSU students as they deliver their big idea two-minute pitch to a panel of industry judges from 9 a.m.-noon Friday, Nov. 30, in 107 Devlin Hall. Admission is free to this come-and-go event.
Five winning teams will be selected and announced at a brief awards ceremony at 12:30 p.m. The winning teams will receive up to $1,200 in seed money to continue their projects, and each team member will receive a $1,000 scholarship.
Sponsored by Koch Industries, this competition fosters a culture of creativity, innovation, entrepreneurship and teamwork among students.

Keep Calm & Breathe on sessions continue through Wednesday, Dec. 19
Join the Counseling and Testing Center for Keep Calm & Breathe On. Drop in to build structured relaxation time into your life and learn techniques to do relaxation on your own. You will be led in meditation, mindfulness and relaxation practices. The meetings are from 12:15-12:45 p.m. every Wednesday in 257 RSC. Bring it to the front desk of the Shocker Store to sign up to sponsor that family. Gifts are then returned back to the Shocker Store (RSC location) once they are purchased. They need to be returned by Tuesday, Dec. 4, and should be unwrapped, new and clearly labeled with your angel or star's tag / number.
