Muma and Hall to host an All Students Town Hall on the Shock the Future Referendum
Provost Richard D. Muma and Teri Hall, vice president of Student Affairs, will host an All Students Town Hall meeting to answer questions and spark discussion on the Shock the Future Referendum, a student-led campaign that identifies a list of academic and student success infrastructure needs.

USS and Non-Teaching UP Employee Self-Evaluation is due tomorrow!
The USS and Non-Teaching UP Employee annual myPerformance Self-Evaluation is due tomorrow (Thursday, Jan. 31). This is an opportunity for employees to provide input on job performance and accomplishments made since March 1, 2018. Employees can access their self-evaluation through the myPerformance link found in myWSU. Volunteers needed to help sustain success; identification of interest deadline is Feb. 1
As a follow up to the Oct. 25 Strategic Plan Town Hall, and as a next step to the Shared Governance Forums held late last year and early this spring, the Office of Academic Affairs and Strategic Planning Steering Committee are inviting interested university personnel to volunteer their service to sustain progress. Six volunteers are needed to work with the Kansas Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (KIPCOR) to design an engagement process intended to yield campus-wide involvement in building a trustworthy process for decision-making and responsible transparency.
This reference team, comprised of a diverse representation of WSU faculty, staff and students will meet no more than four times in February and March to assist in the design and implementation of 1-3 large group engagements for the WSU community. These activities will be aimed at developing shared goals for specific ways that individuals, teams and departments will collaboratively contribute to a cohesive community culture.
Interested persons should email Kaye Monk-Morgan at kaye.monk@wichita.edu with a brief explanation of their desire to serve. Every goal will be made to create a team that reflects the diversity of thought and experience that enriches the WSU community.
The deadline for identification of interest is Friday, Feb. 1.
What training do you need?
Instructional Design and Access has a faculty training day planned in March, and we would like to hear from faculty before we finalize our schedule.
What training topics would you find useful? IDA typically provides training in Blackboard, online pedagogy, accessibility. We can also offer training in manipulating images for your class, using social media, and other related topics, and we regularly partner with ITS for faculty versions of Microsoft trainings.

Sections of Alumni Plaza Pedestrian Mall will be closed for a time
Sections of the Alumni Plaza Pedestrian Mall will be closed to pedestrian traffic for the next three or four weeks to allow for the excavation of failed chilled water piping outside a manhole in the mall between Duerksen Fine Arts Center and McKinley Hall. After the repair, the disrupted area will be condensed to a smaller area until the plaza paving can be restored later in the spring.
Women’s Studies and Religion Department seeking submissions for upcoming summit
The Department of Women’s Studies and Religion is seeking submissions for presentations for its third annual Diverse Women’s Summit from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday, March 7, in the Shirley Beggs Ballroom. The theme for this year’s summit is Accessibility and Inclusion, but other topics are also welcome.
Students from any college or department may submit proposals, approximately 300 words, for a 10-15 minute presentation. Proposals and any questions may be sent to rannfrid.thelle@wichita.edu.
Cosmosphere CEO to present talk at Wichita State
Join the Wichita Space Initiative's Space Exploration Lecture Series as we welcome Jim Remar, Cosmosphere CEO, who will give a talk titled "SpaceWorks and NASA's 50th Anniversary of Apollo 11 Restoration Project," at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday, Jan. 31) in 100 Lindquist Hall. Remar's talk will describe the restoration work that the Cosmosphere is performing on Apollo-era mission control panels in preparation for NASA’s celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 lunar landing. It is free and open to the public.
Remar is a recognized expert in the areas of museum administration, strategic planning and space artifact preservation and exhibition He joined the Cosmosphere as curator in 2000. After eight years at the Cosmosphere, Remar joined the team at Gregory Inc. as Vice President of Operations.
In 2012, Remar returned to the Cosmosphere as President / COO where he was responsible for all operations of the organization, including SpaceWorks, the department of the Cosmosphere responsible for the restoration of artifacts, as well as the fabrication of exhibitry and high fidelity replicas. The Cosmosphere’s governing board named Remar CEO of the organization January 2018.

Encourage students to apply for Senior Honor awards
Applications are being sought for Wichita State’s 2019 Senior Honor awards. This is considered to be one of the most prestigious honors a student can receive at WSU. Up to 10 students are chosen for this honor each year. The application deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8. To review the eligibility requirements and application process, go to Senior Honor awards.

Tip: Know the terms. Accessibility has a vocabulary all its own, and it’s important to know how accessibility terms are used.
- Accessibility: Done in advance to improve access for populations of students.
- Accommodations: Done in response to the identified needs of an individual.
- Timely: Sufficient time to allow all individuals to receive the same benefit and achieve the same level of achievement.
- Equally Effective: Communicates the same information in as effective a manner as the original.

WSU Weekly Briefing to feature a Shock the Future update from the dean of the Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
The WSU Weekly Briefing will begin at 10 a.m. tomorrow (Thursday, Jan. 31), in the Marcus Welcome Center.
Andrew Hippisley, dean of the Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, will talk about the potential impact of the Shock the Future referendum on his college.
Tracee Friess, director of communications for research and technology transfer, will provide an overall university update.
The briefing will be livestreamed and available later that day at WSU Weekly Briefing. There will be time for questions following the briefing.

Nominations for the 2019 Distinguished Service Awards are being accepted until 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1. The Distinguished Service awards recognize the dedication and excellence of UP employees who go above and beyond in exemplifying one or more of WSU Strategic Values.

All call for WSU Graduate Student of the Year judges
The WSU Graduate Student of the Year scholarship competition is a competitive and prestigious opportunity for graduate students who have proven exemplary leadership, involvement, and service both to the WSU and Wichita communities. Applications and nominations are now open for students who wish to participate.
We are calling for judges to serve throughout the selection process. The dates and details for each round are available at the link below. We are looking for two different sets of judges, so upon indicating interest, please include which round you would be most interested in serving.
Round 1: Application Review – Completed by Thursday, Feb. 14
- This process would be going through the qualified applicants and meeting to decide on which students move onto the next round.
Round 2: Interviews / Presentations – Friday, Feb. 22
- Our judges panel will sit through a series of interviews which include a presentation of those selected to move on from the application round. Deliberation and decision on the final court of five students will follow the interviews.

If you are a faculty member, a lecturer or a graduate teaching assistant, you will be receiving a bag courtesy of the Office of Adult Learning. As someone who may be teaching or who may know of an adult learner, we want you to be aware of our office and what we do. The Office of Adult Learning has many resources for adult learners and we want you to know we are here to help.

Wichita State chosen to host TBT
The Basketball Tournament (TBT) – a $2 million, winner-take-all summer basketball event broadcast live on ESPN – announced yesterday regional sites for its sixth annual tournament, bringing the summer's premier basketball event to Wichita for the first time. As a part of the tournament, The AfterShocks – a team comprised of former Wichita State University basketball players – will return to play in Wichita.

Lynne Davis will perform a free Wednesdays in Wiedemann concert on the Marcussen organ at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, in Wiedemann Hall.
Volunteer at Wu’s Big Event X
Community Service Board invites you to join them from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, in the third floor Shirley Beggs Ballroom, RSC, to make a huge impact in the Wichita community by volunteering at Wu’s big Event X. Individuals, organizations, faculty, staff, alumni, friends and family are all encouraged to participate in a fun-filled day of service.
Check-in will run from 8:30-8:50 a.m. We will have fun speakers, a breakfast including muffins and coffee, and you will be given a collectible Wu’s Big Event T-shirt.
Participants will load onto buses and be at a service site by 10 a.m., and volunteer until 1 p.m. Participants will then return to the RSC for fun reflection activities and lunch (a Chartwells boxed lunch containing sandwich, chips, and fruit). The event will end by 2 p.m. We hope to serve more than 750 collective volunteer hours on Feb. 9. We need your help to make this happen!
Barton Scholar to be announced today (Wednesday, Jan. 30) at Wichita State
The Clay Barton Scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday, Jan. 30) in the Marcus Welcome Center. The winner will receive a $48,000 scholarship, $12,000 a year for four years, to attend Wichita State.
