Volunteers needed for work on peace and conflict resolution
As a follow up to the Oct. 25 Strategic Plan Town Hall and as a next step to the Shared Governance Forums held late last year and early this spring, the Office of Academic Affairs and Strategic Planning Steering Committee are inviting interested university personnel to volunteer their service to sustain progress. Six volunteers are needed to work with the Kansas Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (KIPCOR) to design an engagement process intended to yield campus-wide involvement in building a trustworthy process for decision-making and responsible transparency.
The deadline for identification of interest is Friday, Feb. 22.
This reference team, comprised of a diverse representation of WSU faculty, staff and students will meet no more than four times in February and March to assist in the design and implementation of 1-3 large group engagements for the WSU community. These activities will be aimed at developing shared goals for specific ways that individuals, teams and departments will collaboratively contribute to a cohesive community culture.
Interested persons should email Kaye Monk-Morgan at kaye.monk@wichita.edu with a brief explanation of their desire to serve. Every goal will be made to create a team that reflects the diversity of thought and experience that enriches the WSU community.
New WSU scholarship will help DACA students succeed
Former Kansas Gov. Mark Parkinson and his wife, Stacy, have established a generous scholarship at Wichita State University to help children of undocumented immigrants earn their degrees to pursue the American Dream.
The Parkinsons said they believe the contributions of immigrants have helped the United States become the greatest country in the world.

Open discussions planned for Feb. 19 and 27
All students, faculty and staff are invited to an open discussion about campus resources for sexual violence from 3:30-4:30 p.m. tomorrow (Tuesday, Feb. 19) in 203 RSC, and 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, in 264 RSC.
Speakers will include representatives from the Counseling and Testing Center, Office of Institutional Equality and Compliance, Wichita Area Sexual Assault Center, WSU Police and Student Health Services. Office of Research workshop: Finding funding
Join the Office of Research for practical tips for finding funding opportunities and the resources available to you at WSU from noon-1:30 p.m. Friday, March 8, in 405 Jardine Hall. The workshop, “Finding Funding – Funding Search Resources; Foundation and Industry Funding Opportunities; Institutional vs Individual Awards,” will be presented by Fran Cook, senior grants / contracts administrator and training manager.
myPerformance Manager Review is due now!
Managers of USS and Non-Teaching UP employees should now submit reviews and ratings
for their direct reports for the 2018-19 annual evaluations in myPerformance. This
step is due Thursday, Feb. 28.

Duo Security trainings added
WSU is implementing Duo two-factor authentication security to all faculty and staff. Duo adds a second layer of security to your WSU login account. Duo enhances security by requiring the use of a secondary device at login to verify your identity, which will ensure that others cannot access your account by obtaining your password. Information Technology Services is providing training on Duo Security on the following dates / time:

You can enroll in these sessions through myTraining located on the myWSU portal; under faculty / staff tab. The name of the training session is “Duo Security Software Demonstration.”
WSU uses Duo Security for all WSU CAS (Central/Authentication Method) Authenticated sites which include myWSU, Banner 9 Admin, Self-Service Banner, Outlook web access, PeopleAmin, Office 365 web access and more.

It’s never too late to improve learning strategies
The earlier students establish strong study habits and learning skills, the better they will perform as they persist to graduation. Encourage students to quiz themselves or other classmates on class concepts, create questions from assigned readings to ask during class, or form a study group with other motivated students to improve academic performance. More study strategies and resources can be found in person in the Shocker Learning Center or online on the Student Success study skills page.
Greek Life Town Hall today (Monday, Feb. 18)
Provost Rick Muma and Teri Hall, vice president for Student Affairs, will host a Greek Life Town Hall meeting to answer questions and spark discussion on the Shock the Future Referendum, a student-led campaign that identifies a list of academic and student success infrastructure needs.

Accessibility training for faculty – graduate student version!
Whether you are a GTA or have a personal interest in accessible teaching, this session is for you! Plan on attending accessibility training for faculty – graduate student version from noon-1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, in 142 RSC. Lunch will be provided to the first 15 students.
Did you know that all WSU instructors are required to take accessibility training each year? This in-person version of the instructor accessibility training will cover terms, policies, law, accessible digital documents, accessible face-to-face teaching, and accessibility training for students.
GTAs who choose this version of the training will meet their WSU academic year accessibility training requirement. The presenter will be Carolyn Speer, Instructional Design & Access.
Save the date - URCAF 2019
The annual Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Forum (URCAF) will be held on Friday, April 19, in the Rhatigan Student Center. The forum provides an excellent opportunity for undergraduate students at Wichita State to present their scholarly and creative activity to a faculty, student and community audience, while competing for cash awards.
